Okay, as is usually the case with this brewer, this beer foamed up like nobody's business no matter which method of pouring or glass style. It poured a light clear amber color with a huge off white foamy head that left latticed lace as it slowly began it's stubborn depature. A medium amount of carbonation is present, surprising, considering the amount of head I would had expected more. An aroma of malt, caramel and alcohol. A flavor of malt, caramel and alcohol with other sweet dark fruit flavors floating around. A medium body and a slightly sweet, yet somewhat bitter finish. A Belgian triple with barley wine elements. A good beer.

Tap at Hair of the Dog. Pours hazy orange with white head. Aroma is very caramel, barley, sweet. Taste is nicely balanced, a hoppy barley wine, easy, smooth, low carbonation. Overall, very good.

Pours a cloudy brown and without any head whatsoever. Biscuit, caramel, toffee, citrus, resinous hop and malt aroma. Resinous hop, citrus, caramel, fig, biscuit, toffee, alcohol, oxidation and malt flavors. Bitter but completely flat and very oxidized. Boozy and bitter biscuit finish. Hope this was just a bad bottle that was improperly capped but for the price for a bottle not sure if worth getting again. Definitely infected. Batch 93

From notes: Had this on draft at hair of the dog brewery. Reddish with white head. Smells like a pile of prunes. Tastes pretty good.

UPDATED: OCT 23, 2014 On tap, poured into a sampler tulip. Aromatics containing bread crust and dry citrus / curcao are dominant with some hints of sugar and mango. It pours a hazy and murky orange color with a white, dense foam head that reduces to a thin ring with a light fuzz surface. It leaves a a few streaks of dense, microbubble lace. The taste is a medium high sweet, medium bitter, and a touch of sour. An abundant, soft, creamy carbonation accompanies the full body, viscous texture. Sweet caramel, bread crust, and tropical fruit flavors start the mouth, and it turns to bitter fruit at the finish with a bit of a sour touch. A mellow bitterness and pine linger in the aftertaste.

"this one was originally a little harsh for me (’05). Had some of the same qualities as Bigfoot (good) and Arrogant Bastard (which I also find to be a little harsh), though. deep and complex, but I’ll most likely spend my money elsewhere, especially for the price. 3/11 - after a couple years, gave it another shot. better. i saw someone described it as a Hardys meets Bigfoot. Not as sweet as hardys or as bitter as bigfoot, but definitely a little of both. it grew on me with each sip. fruity. alcohol still a tad too prevelant, but the warmth at the swallow cancels out the overcarbonation. well done. still not a 99th percentile beer (100th on rb) in my mind, but quite good. originally a 3.8 or so...batch 80 4.3...average 4.1

Fred is a very sweet beer with high alcohol content. Aroma notes include cereal, citrus, and sweet corn. Appearance is golden in color, liquid is clear, and the head is white foam and medium frothy. Taste is medium to heavy sweetness with no bitterness. Body is medium with a creamy texture on the tongue. Average level of carbonation and a short, sugary finish. Overall, this beer is much too sweet for my taste and I would not buy it again.

12oz bottle - pours a hazy yellow , thick fluffy head . Aromatic hop aroma . Taste is slightly sweet but has a nice piney hop note . Finishes a little boozy but otherwise delicious . ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

STEVE!! Thanks! A couple of bottles from the source, cellar aged 14 months and split with ck1 & Jan. Lighter than expected pour. Very fruity, barleywine-ish, caramel/butterscotch-y. Similar to Bourbon Fred but not as super sweet. 14.2

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours hazy dark amber with a lot of sediment and an off-white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are caramel, alcohol, dried fruit, orange rind, and hops - with a bitter and alcoholic finish.

Pour with thick rich head and big malty rye aroma. The flavor was so big and rich, yah needed a fork and knife to cut through it. Absolutly big wonderful beer for the tastebuds. Great hop usage to balance it out. Great finish with added warmth to put this over top.
