Batch 51. Pours hazy copper with a huge foamy off-white sticky head with excellent lacing that lasts throughout. Banana and yeast (wheat, dough) honey malt (meal, cookie) and straw aromas. Wheat acidic hoppy flavor with a malt body and fusel alcohol notes. Medium bodied and fizzy palate with very lively carbonation and finishes dry.

On tap at brewery. Honey gold with little to no cap, same rimjob edging. Aroma is rye forward, followed with honey, yeast, peach, young apricot. Taste is sweet bread, ripe apricot, hoppy bite. Lingering dry finish.

Hazy golden pour with a thin head. Full mouth with lots of grain. Long sweet candy finish. Sugary and sweet, but very drinkable for a 10% ABV.

Appearance: Hazy oranges under a thick puffy white head which takes its time fading into a solid layer of white fluff, tightly packed white fluff that is. Swirls thick and lacy.
Nose: Yeasty, doughy, spicy, and boozy. Apricots, peaches, and pineapples – dried and delicious. Green banana peel and aloe. Soft brushed saddlebags and chamois. Starfruit and papaya. Angel food cake soaked in all the above.
Palate: Sweet and bready and chamois and bananas and nutty. Moist banana nut bread. Candied pineapple and apricot and apple. Cumin and saffron. Candied ginger in the back. Gentle warmth settles into the chest. Flambéed tropical undertones. A touch of angel food cake to soak up all the goodness.
Final Thoughts: A sophisticated brew from a tongue in cheek brewery whose beers are anything but tongue in cheek. Hair of the Dog beers are hard to come by so should you ever be so lucky, enjoy. I know I did.

Poured into a perfect pint. Batch 83. 3.5 A: I needed a few pours to get a full glass due to the massive head. Anyway, I eventually got to a well hazed orange brown color with a lot of small particulate floating about. Three fingers of frothy/foamy beige head. Retention is impressive given the ABV and a ton of lacing is left. 4.5 S: Quite a nice nose on this. Quite malty like most HOTD brews. Deep caramel, toffee, light fruits, spicy earthy rye, and some raisin and fig. Candi sugar for that extra push of sweetness. Hops are floral, citrusy, and herbal. Solid, robust aroma on this. 4.0 T: Taste is like the nose, but just isn’t quite as impressive. That said, it’s still damn good. Lots of caramel, generic light fruitiness, dates and raisins, spicy earthy rye. Again that trademark candi sugar residue. Mild bitterness, but much more hop flavor. Citrusy, then floral, then herbal, then citrusy again. 4.0 M: Heavier body. Good moderate carbonation despite needing several pours. Good creaminess and plenty smooth. Alcohol is hard to detect. 4.5 D: This might be my favorite HOTD brew. Very nice balance and super easy to drink. Well done. Serving type: bottle 11-16-2012 04:49:38

Bottle courtesy of Porcelainbomb (reddit trader). Pours dark orange and gold with zero carbonation. Aromas are sweet sugary goodness, apricot, caramel and soap. Flavors are big sweet candy, then alcohol both burn and flavor, then something that tastes akin to carrot juice and finally some intense hop bitterness. Palate is very heavy in weight but a little thin and hot, it would benefit from some carbonation. Overall, this is a good beer though it is hard to wrap my head around all the flavors and feelings this is trying to convey to the drinker; it is a little too broad in flavor which causes it to become muddled. Still above average due to it’s scope and the fact that not many brewers would take this kind of a chance.

chinchill (660) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 10, 2013
12 oz. cellared bottle from 2008. Poured amber and more-or-less clear. Although bottle conditioned, the aromatics seem similar to a barrel-aged beer. Some of that is the suggestion of brandy in this high ABV ale. Also smells a little fruity. Has a medium-full body with some harshness from the alcohol. Taste: very strong flavor; no style on bottle but "imperial barleywine" seems appropriate. Mildly bitter. O: an extreme ale that seems a little over the top and with the high ABV a bit too obvious. Rough and unrefined in contrast with an aged Firestone DBA that preceded it.

12oz bottle of batch 78 (drinking with Conflux 1, The Dissident, and Adam) pours a cloudy orange and gold with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar oranges Taste similar to aroma with rye malts, sweet, with some lingering hop bitterness of the finish. Very nice and easy to drink for 10%. Pretty awesome Barley Wine.

Bottle to glass. Thickes head ive ever seen. Took a good 10 min to receed. Has a bit of candied sugar to it but less than the typical barleywine. A bit spicy and can taste the alcohol. Its like a golden ale just 3 times stronger. Decent but dont see the biig deal.

Tap @ HOTD. Dark amber, with thin head. Aroma of malt, over ripe fruit and some alcohol. Taste is complex with caramel, spice and some alcohol warmth balanced with some bitterness
