COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is similar to Hair of the Dog's Ruth beer, but instead of hops, several varieties of squash are used. Available only at Higgins, a Portland restaurant.

Light brown color. Medium head. Aroma is malty and fruity. A medium bodied ale made with squash. OK…. Malts are fruity and sweet. Slighlty spicy. Nicely balanced. Very smooth and esy to drink. This would make a great session beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

had this from a tap at the toronado, was decent amber color with barely a film of a head to it, are you serious this had squash in it?? it was well flavored, it was spicy and dry with almost a barleywine flavor to it

Ciderish, a cloudy gold. Nose is faint, mild fruitiness. Fruit predominates the flavor, subtle, apricots or pears maybe. Big candyish. Strikes me as sort of a mini-tripel in some of its flavors. Can't really pick out the squash, but still a decent brew.

I could barely taste the squash, but that’s ok. Somewhat dry, but not too bitter. Very drinkable for this style of beer. Similar in taste to Ruth, but I would say this is probably better. HotD is amazing.

Squash? Really? Doesn’t taste like anything but a soft, silky Belgian-style golden ale. Closest comparison: Unibroue’s Don de Dieu. Very good.

The aroma is sweetly sour, like over-ripe lemon. The flavor is fruity with a slight alcohol background. It’s mildly sweet and not too complex, with a little too much of a too-ripe fruit flavor. The finish just stops, but a bit of sourness lingers. I applaud the use of a very interesting ingredient (squash), but this beer didn’t do it for me.

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2003 (2003): Sweet herbal aroma, with some candy sugar/bubblegum. Taste is sweet, light Tripelesque, herbal and mint. Different squash from last year, with a better taste. (2002): Cloudy golden in appearance, with a mild fruity aroma. I'd never guess the squash without being told -- the flavor is very fruity and mild, with hint of alcohol. No noticeable bitterness.
