Sampler @ Hair of the Dog, Portland.
Pours murky green-brown color with minimal head. Looks like dish water. Aroma of nettle, grass, honey and goose berry bush. Flavour of honey, hay, goose berry, toffee hints and some fruits. Quite odd.

On tap @ Brouwer’s. Let me say up front I would never seek out a squash beer. But it’s HotD... Gotta try it. Pours opaque brownish orange with super thin head. Aroma is earthy sweet. Taste is funky fruit, slight tartness, grassy herb finish. Yeah, I guess that’s squash in there too. No hops to speak of. Odd beer. It just doesn’t measure up as something you’d drink consistently, but you have to give them credit for having the stones to do a beer like this.

On tap at Brouwer’s Cafe. Pours muddy brownish with two finger big bubbly chalk white head, quick dissipation. Smell is squash, sweeter veggie, a bit earthy. Taste is bland, squash and veggies, sort of like a light bodied abbey ale, but sweet. Thin mouthfeel. Interesting and drinkable, but I don’t really want to try it again.

Draft at Brouwers. Pours a transparent orange-amber. Sweet, malty aroma. Flavor is also quite sweet, and the lack of hops to balance out the sugary squash is definitely noticeable. Squash flavor is quite mild, and it seems like the vegetable contributes sugar sweetness more than the flavor is squash flesh.

Draft at brouwers with Linh and Nhi. Pours a clear orange amber with white lacing. Aroma is weird spice and malt sweetness. Mouthfeel is thin with notes of weird fruit, sweet malts.

3oz pour at HotD. Pours a cloudy, yellowish-amber color with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet, fruity, floral. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, bready, the squash comes through, but isn’t overpowering, with a sweet, fruity finish. Zero bitterness, which would makes this even better. A very interesting for a hopless beer.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear yellow color with a medium white head. The aroma sweet fruity and melon notes. The flavor is a rich caramel and sugar, some dried fruit, light vegetal notes. A bit odd/interesting.
