Cloudy amber color with no head. Aroma of citrus, spice and squash. Taste is heavy on the squash as advertised. A bit too vegetabley.

Madness@the Moose YEHA. 1 Liter handbottle provided by yobdoog, I think it was filled at Higgins restaurant. I was excited to try this. Aroma is not surprisingly weird with light sweetness and definitely vegetable but not in a bad way. Taste is actually pretty plain, tastes like a pale ale with a bit more crystal malt sweetness. It very easy drinking and definitely a fine beer without using any hops. Extra points for creativity and being able to pull this off.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured a medium orange color with a very small sized heat. Aromas of yeast, earthy, citrus, spices, and squash. Tastes of spices, squash, and caramel. There was definitely squash in there that made this one different and interesting.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured a hazy yellow orange color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, orange, squash, bread, and toffee. Taste was dry, bready, light spices, and a mild, toffee finish. Pretty interesting / nice.

Hand bottle from Samurai Artist. Thanks Ezra! Pours a nice hazy amber color with a medium off white head. Aroma of herbs, spices, malt and bread. Taste was different from any other beer I have had, but in a pleasant way. The flavor is well balanced, smooth and very easy to drink. Has a sweet dry finish.

Thanks WeeHeavySD for the taste at the 2007 PP SAF:
Amber hued with a splash of bubbles and no lace. The aroma has notes of veggies (the squash I guess) grass, herbs, caramel, and doughy yeast esters. The taste was sweet but not has I feared with some lactic acid and bitterness in balance. For something with no hops, where did the bitterness come from? Chewy and sticky mouth feel. Very different and warmed up to me.

Growler from WeeHeavy at the preSAF tasting ’07. Mild aroma. Light amber color. Some bitterness from squash and not hops, which is super interesting. Lots of flavor like a much stronger beer. Tasty. I like it.

Hand bottle from Samurai Artist. Thanks Ezra. After re-watching American Beer last week got me extra excited to try this, and just in time for Turkey Day. Pours orange with a nice 2 finger tan head. Nose is light and sugary with a bit of malt and the faint squash. Wow that is really crazy. Very sweet, very squashy and therefore robust. Overall a pretty damn tasty beer. Really different and thats good. I really like it it has a lot of flavor and a big bite in the taste for a mere 4.5%. Yum.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a transparent, honey gold color with a thick layer of well-sustaining soapy white head. The health and depth of the head is quite impressive, especially for a beer brewed without hops. Clean, crisp aromas of toffee, caramelized sugar, and cookie dough blend beautifully with the layer of autumn squash that’s humbly, yet clearly present. Medium-light bodied, crisply carbonated mouthfeel. The cleanness and dryness of the palate is astounding considering the lack of hops. Plenty of squash flavor present, accompanied by a mild brown sugar sweetness and firm bready malt base. Free from any detracting spice characters, this is just a fine example of an clean drinking, flavorfully unique brew.
