Madness@the Moose YEHA. 1 Liter handbottle provided by yobdoog, I think it was filled at Higgins restaurant. I was excited to try this. Aroma is not surprisingly weird with light sweetness and definitely vegetable but not in a bad way. Taste is actually pretty plain, tastes like a pale ale with a bit more crystal malt sweetness. It very easy drinking and definitely a fine beer without using any hops. Extra points for creativity and being able to pull this off.

3oz pour at HotD. Pours a cloudy, yellowish-amber color with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet, fruity, floral. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, bready, the squash comes through, but isn’t overpowering, with a sweet, fruity finish. Zero bitterness, which would makes this even better. A very interesting for a hopless beer.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear yellow color with a medium white head. The aroma sweet fruity and melon notes. The flavor is a rich caramel and sugar, some dried fruit, light vegetal notes. A bit odd/interesting.

It was ugly and gross. No hops in this one, and it proves why that is a bad idea. Looked like hell as well. Nasty.

Clean and clear aroma w/ some fruitiness and a bit of yeast. Cloudy, dark straw. Minimal head. Slight alcohol is noticeable through the light wine-like flavors. Bit vegetal. Decent carbonation and light fruit in finish. Very refreshing, works quite well with squash subbing for hops.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Westmeister (590) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JAN 31, 2012
Draft @ HotD. Pours a mostly clear yellow with great white lace. Aroma of sugery/honey fruit and mild grain. Taste is sweet, grainy, with some honey and spice. Mildly refreshing. This was a very interesting brew.

Tap at HOTD. Pours to a hazy straw colored body with a white head. The aroma is slightly sweet pilsener malt. Mild alternative sourced sugards. The flavor is sweeter pilsener malt than expected. It must be from the squash. Almost like a cardamom, but that could simply be a mild astringency. The palate is smooth and medium light bodied.

Draught from the brewery. Hazy golden appearance with a strong head. The bartender had quite the difficult time pouring it, because it was quite carbonated. Prickly carbonation on the tongue. Not a lot of squash is hitting my taste buds. I’m getting a TON of that pilsner malt. Subtle vegetable backing, but I wouldn’t say that it could be easily identified as squash; however, there is a distinct earthy/vegetable taste to the beer. The beer seems to settle quite a bit, carbonation wise. I love Hair of the Dog stuff, but I don’t know, this beer seems to be dominated by that pilsner malt flavor. The squash addition seems to play only a minimal role. It was quite the pungent brew (I’m speaking in past-tense because I had this last night), but I didn’t get much squash. Overall, this was a unique experience, but I was expecting a different dimension. I’ve been waiting to try this for years.

Hmm, an interesting brew, this - light body, tangy, wheaty - a bit of honey and wildflower - squash adds an interesting sweetness to the mix - a touch of phenols add further depth - a light tingly acidity on the tail end - interesting.

On tap at Hair of the Dog. Pours a cloudy blond with a small white head. Aroma of candied fruits, pineapple and squash. Flavour of squash, candied pineapple, spices, cinnamon - similar to a pumpkin beer. Dirty flavour, interesting, but not a fan of this style.

On tap at Hair of the Dog, split with Matts_Property, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma of squash, candied pineapple. Flavour of squash, spices (like pumpkin), with a very dry palate. Fairly simple and uninteresting. Decent.
