COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jim 2008 is a blend made with Hair of the Dogs Adam from the Wood, aged four months in wet Elija Craig bourbon barrels; Fred from the Wood, aged in new American Oak; Blue Dot for hop nose; and Doggie Claws to nicely round it out. Named for beer legend Jim Kennedy, the blend also received a dose of 2003 Samichlaus and 2007 Chimay Grand Reserve.

Big hops in the aroma, grapefruit, floal hops, sweet-ish malts, toffee, caramel, light sugary sweetness that becomes very fruit. Brownish red with a thick coaty lace and a gantastic head. Malty sweet up front, toffee, light fruits, nice hoppy finish - grapefruit orange. Dry and hoppy, moderately sweet finish.

On tap at the Portland Holiday Ale Fest. Colour... dark brown with no head. Nose... tangy, tart, rather mustard like. Palate... quite tangy up front, yet lightly sweet, some citrus, tropical fruits, some tang on the back palate and a hint of Bourbon on the finish.

[Vintage] Holiday Ale Festival... Poured brownish with no head. Tart, sour and yeasty aroma. Creamy and malty with fruits, black pepper, and that quintessential HotD character. Sweet, nicely spiced for the holidays.

draft @ Brouwer’s Big Wood - boom!!! beer of the night w/o a doubt and complete shocker that it was on the menu; dark brown with frothy white head; aromas of hops, dirt, sugar and booze; very blue dot-esque with the earthy, malty hops; much heavier and fuller than Jim II; very sweet with wood and bourbon flavors shinning through; killer brew Alan!!

Portland Holiday Ale Festival 2008. This years Jim was amazing, maybe the best yet. Hearty blend of caramel, plum, chocolate, cola, raisin, port, and soft licorice flavors all seem to show. Layers upon layers of flavors gaining so much complexity as it warms up. Light smoke flavor and bourbon/oak hints as the beer warms almost picking up a soft scotch/peaty note with the smoke. The alcohol isnt overwhelming and the beer just saturates the palate with an onslaught of flavors, just beautiful, I could have spent a day at the fest just drinking this beer, although I probably wouldnt be able to stand for long.
