Commercial Description:
Jim is a collaboration between Hair of the Dog Brewing and Oregon Brew Crew member Preston Weesner. Jim honors the late Jim Kennedy, founder of Admiralty Beverage and a tireless promoter of craft beer. This Belgian Dubbel Maredsous 8 is blended with Hair of the Dog beers and aged on oak; it’s a beer not to be missed, and the Holiday Ale Festival is the only place to get it.

5oz Taster - Fred Fest 2008 - Hair of the Dog Brewing - Portland OR
Aroma – Strong ale aroma with good fruit background.
Appearance – Dark Amber in color, little to no head and clear.
Flavor – A very strong flavor this was a great beer. Loved the mixture of the many beers to make this beer. Wow did I get the fruitiness from all the beers.
Palate – Great Mouthfeel, good texture with a dry finish.
Overall – Deep rich flavor this had spice, fruit and huge Old ale flavors. Great beer.

Jim 2, courtesy of Preston.
This one was a blend of Adam, Doggie Claws, Spaten Pils and St Feuillien Tripel and then aged and bottled. Fiery amber colour. No apparent carbonation. Cantaloupey nose with raisins, spice, and all manner of gorgeous fruity things. Soft, mapley, fruity (melon, citrus) body. Lush malts and a peppery alcohol finish.

Named for the late Jim Kennedy, founder of Admiralty Beverage, this unique beer is a blend of Mardesous 8, a Belgian Dubbel, and some Hair of the Dog beers. Like the Ho Ho Homo Erectus, this beer weighs in around 10% ABW. It’s flavor ranges from super-complex to insanely experimental. It’s color is one of a kind--a milky, murky concoction.

This beer just tasted like a train wreck and kinda looked like one also. Poured like brown mud, just murkey and gross with lots of yeast flavor to it making me think it was all shaken up or something. This brew just tasted like you went and mixed all the HOTD beers together, it didn’t have a nice personality, just a clash of many. It was overly hoppy and bitter for a belgian with lots of citrus hops. I really wanted to enjoy this beer, but was really let down.
