2012 bottle. Aroma is full of fruity acidity with notes of cherry, berry and plum. Some malt character of toasted bread and light faint chocolate. A touch of alcohol spice. Pours a cloudy amber with some brown notes to it. Small light tan head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges. This bottle has carbonation. Flavor is slightly malty upfront with some caramel, chocolate, toast and faint roast. After the malt the acidity hits and brings cherry, berry and bitter orange. More bitter than expected but no hop flavor. Light oak character in the finish. Some alcohol spice in the finish as well. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency with medium alcohol warmth. Acidity is moderate and dries the beer out in the finish. Overall a nice beer but the bitterness is a touch strong as is the alcohol notes. Good fruitiness.

Pours an amber brown with no head. Aroma of Brett, sour cherries and metal. Taste follows, really funky and tart. Not bad

Bottle:   2012 Vintage:   Dirty dark caramel, thin dishwater like head, off-white, little lacing.   Sweetart candy like aroma whafts from the glass.   Otherwise vinous, a bit woody, and some sweet vinegar aspects.   Flat on the tongue, funky but certainly not bright, sweetened cherry and dark pitted fruit vinegar towards the backside.   Somewhat of an acidic sourness much like a wine would be.   A bit different from most sours.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Soft tart finish, lingering semi-sweet cherry and dark pitted fruit vinegar like notes.   Interesting example.   Curious to see how this ages.

12 oz bottle from Daknole. Pours a lovely orangish-red with a decent sized white head. Aromas of red fruits, vanilla, sweet malts and maybe some wood over a thin foundation of vinegary goodness. Tastes almost identical to the aroma though it is more complex when you start breaking down individual flavors and how they move over the palate almost fading and then coming back during the aftertaste. Increasingly complex as this warms and the barrel notes come out as slightly sweet vanilla with some earthy wood notes as well. The mouthfeel is just a little light in the carbonation area making the beer feel heavier than it really is. Overall this is a damn good beer, and my first HotD. I hope I get to sample some of the other beers they offer as this one was a great beer.

Bottle, from trade with MtGoat. Pours a deep rusty orange body with a small white head. Aroma is sweet-sour malty nut-laced vinegar tones, wood, vanilla and complex and very subtle hints of herbs and red berries. Lovely. Taste is oaky vanilla malt tones up front along with dry vinegar-balsamic lactic acid touches. Mid-palate, peppery alcohol tones take over, followed by a dry, acetic finish with hints of herbs, dried fruits and red berries. Nice. Full body, medium to high carbonation. Excellent Flemish red.

’12 bottle from John - thanks! Low carbonation pour with a murky, rust colored look and no head. Aroma is light tart and sour with grain. Taste is a nice rough sour with tart prickles and a clean, watery finish. Mouthfeel could use carbonation. Nice beer.

Bottle shared at RBWG! Pours a hazy reddish gold with thin tan head and light lacing. Aroma of sour cherries, pils malt, and slight vanilla oak. Taste follows, sour, but kind of thin on the mouth for the age. Glad I tried it, but wish I can get some of their other stuff.

Bottle from Rayl101. Puors a hazy red with a whispy tan head. Aroma is fruits (cherry), malts, earthiness and a touch of vinous notes. Taste is sweet and tart; pretty much what I expected from Hair of the Dog in this offering. Full bodied with the mouthfeel expected from wood barreling. For its lower abv, the alcohol is noticeable. Good, but not great.
