3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Big thanks to Aaron for this one. Served in a Hair of the Dog tulip. Nose is pretty nice with a good level of acidity plus some baking oak and a fruit component. There’s some cherry along with mild dark fruits. Flavor ha the acidity and fruit down, but there’s way too much barrel character, as the tannins are nearly overpowering. Light-medium body.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at the Brewery. Pour is murky amber with a small tan head that quickly dissipated. Tangy, figgy, green apples, caramelly, bready, and pears in the aroma. Taste is sour apples, lemon peel, biscuit, caramel, and pears with a moderately sour finish. Medi body with soft carbonation. Decent stuff.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2012 Vintage. $24 for a 12poz bottle! Poured an amberish color with an off white head. Fruity, lighter funk, wood, light vinegar, and cherries. This one was OK, but does not justify the price tag.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012 bottle at home. Pours an ugly murky brown with gorgeous creamy, dense head that lasts and lasts, continually replenished by the lively stream of bubbles rising in the glass. Aroma: Cherries at the forefront, sitting atop a balsamic base. A touch of vanilla, a nice earthy mustiness, and even a bit of lemon zest. Really nice aroma. Taste: not as sweet as I expected from the cherry/vanilla combo of the aroma. The mustiness is more prominent here than in the aroma. Assertive balsamic-sourness, with mild bitterness in the finish as well. Vanilla still shows itself, as does an almost astringent tannic note. Palate: With my first few sips this felt a little hollow/thin, but as I drink more and have acclimated it feels just right. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. Overall: I recall not really enjoying this fresh, but now I’m glad I still have a bottle left. This is quite nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by verbalessence at Antwerpen park bench tasting. Flat-ish red - orange pour. Tons of bourbon strangely enough, light winey notes, cherries, very very light acetic notes. Taste is sweet fruity, vanilla light acidity, lots of alcohol. Palate is med-full bodied, sweet with low carbonation. Not exactly an accurate flemish red, but still interesting.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (330 ml). 2012 vintage. Shared by verbalessence, thanks! Murky caramel color with a small persistent beige head and little lacing. Aroma is of vanilla, red fruits, strong wooden notes, caramel and Sherry. Taste isn’t very sour. There’s a good amount of vanilla here too, red fruits, wood, Sherry, caramel and light acidic presence. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Woodsy finish. I’m not sure I would have classified this one as a Flander’s Red in a blind tasting, but it’s still quite tasty.

2009 bottle 12oz. Clear amber small head. Nose tannic red fruits lots of wood.tannins and wood spices. Sharp citrusy tartness with nice sourness. Taste tannic wood with red fruits. Finish nicely tannic and woody fairly astringent finish. Quite busy finish. Finish really nicely woody and.tannic.
Very well.made well balanced. Surprisingly elegant even if intensely woody.
Great acidity really smooth. Light alcohol on the finish. I was not expecting a lot from this but it was actually really nice. Well balanced, intrinsically complex. Nice surprise !
