3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 maekchu (174) - Hirakata, JAPAN - MAR 5, 2012
On tap at HOTD Brewery and Taproom. 3-oz. taster. Fruit and butterscotch nose and thick sugary notes in aroma. Rose-tinged dark straw color. No head but a tiny stream of carbonation trickling upwards. Tangy and hearty. Some cheese. Very strong alcohol heat. Maybe not yet quite integrated. Medium body w/ light carbonation. Light warm wine-like aftertaste.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 3fourths (6408) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 15, 2011
tap. big, sweet and sticky as fred tends to be, but with the time in bourbon barrel it’s become almost absurdly hot, green and raw. the peach character adds a small bit of fruit flavor (probably doesn’t add sweetness but if it does it would be hard to tell given how sweet fred is in the first place), that’s mostly raw and pulpy. thing is, it’s entirely too messy and disjointed. unbalanced levels of sweetness, bitterness and acid, with very noticeable alcohol. probably one of the least favorite beers i’ve had from hair of the dog.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1699) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 20, 2010
At HOTD, day off Matt release. Typed up on my notes ad my phones batteries were on their last legs. Orange color. Lots o wood, peaches, sweet and oaky, nutty chocolate, stellar! Seems buttery without the butter. Huuuuge wood honey peaches, vinegar, alc, wine aftertaste, walnut shells, grain. Finishes long and distinct.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 BrewDad (3701) - Olympia, Washington, USA - DEC 16, 2010
Hair of the Dog – Portland, OR
Golden with a light orange hue hazy with floaters of peach. There is a strong peach flavoring with the added Fred this makes for an interesting beer. Light Bourbon and oak flavors and strong heat from the high alcohol.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BuckeyeBoy (2147) - Boise, Idaho, USA - DEC 15, 2010
On tap at Hair of the Dog new location. Pours out thick like peach juice with peach pulp no head on this one. Aroma was nice tons of sweetness, peach, and vanilla. Taste was more of the sweet peach juice, some bourbon, and thick malts.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 scrizzz (2220) - Bothell, Washington, USA - DEC 7, 2010
Strong peach aroma, young wood, some varnish. Chunks from the tap. Peach skin wrapped around Fred. Boozy heat in the finish.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 waltersrj (278) - Washington, USA - NOV 26, 2010
Poured slightly darker orange than Fred with minimal white head around the edges. Nose is moderate amounts of peach, smooth bourbon, vanilla, oak, slight honey, and smooth caramel like malt. Taste is initially sweet bourbon, vanilla, oak, slight honey, and then a silky smooth peach flesh flavor. The fruit plays really well with the normal Fred creating a balanced palate that isn’t as sweet as Fred. Great beer especially after Apricot Fred. Mouthfeel was oily like Fred with a dry champagne finish. Awesome stuff.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 boFNjackson (2936) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 20, 2010
Tap @ Hair of the Dog during their 17th anniversary weekend... Poured an amber/honey tone with lots of floaties (actually chunks of peaches). Aroma was much like regular Fred with hints of vanilla bourbonish tones. Peach really played nicely, a good sweet balance to the booziness. Sherry-like, and a dry, champagne alcohol quality.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 DrHomolka (761) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 20, 2010
First rate, cool. Tap at the brewery. Pours a shade darker and oranger than regular Fred. Flat looking, not much or no head. Peach pulp settled at the bottom. Aroma at first is straight bourbon. Nice but pretty much indistinguishable from Bourbon Fred. I think I get some fruitiness but might be placebo. As this warms the fruity peach aspects deepen and peaches are definitely there. Flavor is soft, fruity, low carbonation and smooth. Peach and bourbon both there. The fruitiness might cover up some complexities but this is super drinkable and about as sessionable as it gets for 10%+ bourbon barrel stuff.
