2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 badgerben (4116) - Blaine, USA - FEB 8, 2006
I honestly thought I had just poured myself a raspberry smoothy from the look of this. Medium head. Aroma of bubble gum. Taste certainly had currant with a slightly sour and tart finish. Maybe I’m just not a fan of currants, but the fruit did not blend well with the beer base. Alcohol not doing the taste any favors either.

Thanks to mday for opening this bottle. Served in a snifter.
Pours near purple and it is quite cloudy. No real head or lacing. Maybe a bubble or two on top. The nose is a bit herbal and fruity with a bit of the fruit coming through. The taste is slightly sweet with a bit of an astringency. The fruit doesn’t really come through. The finish is really quite dry on a fairly-light body for what it is. Slight vitamin character on the finish. Overall, decent enough but I’m guessing this has seen better days.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 CheersMate (1270) - Fremont (Seattle), Washington, USA - DEC 24, 2010
12 oz. bottle for $15 at the brewery. This was a nice surprise. This had a turbid purplish color. The head faded away quickly. This had a nice Belgian Tripel aroma that is quickly masked by the black currant aroma. It has a slightly tart/sour aroma that mixes very well with the aforementioned aromas. The beer has a nice black currant flavor, that is subtly complimented by a sweet Belgian Tripel flavor. Towards the very end you get a nice tart/sour finish that rounds the beer out quite well. This beer had a little carbonation in it, but it was just the right amount. We had this with "Pasta White" made by Alan, and both the beer and the pasta were great; they complimented each other quite well. Very nice beer, and I’m definitely happy that I was able to try this.

’05 bottle from HOTD. Dark raisin colored pour with a creamy eggshell head. Aroma is yeast, candy sugar, honey and dark fruit. Flavor shows lots of prune and raisin along with caramel, biscuit, and even tart cherry skin. The alcohol isn’t forward anymore. Pretty good.
