COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

Batch # 40 : A deep and dark brown abbey x 3 with a short lived head that fizzed out into the abyss rather quickly. The aroma is strange and smells like cocain has just been cut and is set up in lines. Even the flavor, i taste nothing but coke, its as if just gave my self a liquid form of a gummer in my mouth with each sip besides my tongue and gums arent going numb. I even have the bitter and salty aftertaste. Im so tripping out on this beer right now im tempted to go get a 8 ball just to reassure my tastebuds im not a ex coke fiend lunatic.

Bottle courtesy of dubbercody, thanks again Jaime! Pours a brownish-orange with an off white head. Musty aroma of yeast, caramel malt, candied fruit and a bit of cinnimon. Flavors were of candied fruit, apple, yeast, light sweet malt with a touch of sourness. Lively carbonation that keeps the solid but light body a float...juicy in parts and finishes fairly clean. Another nice one from HOD.

Enjoyed a bottle of this with my brother, Black95tt, the other night. We cracked open a 1998 bottle of this with almost ten years of age on it. This was far from what I would ever consider a tripel but it was fantastic. Very burnt amber in color with a thick palate with no carbonation. The flavor was very smooth and complex with all sorts of caramel that was reminiscent of some of the bigger kuhnhenn beers I have sampled. The alcohol was not really too present either. This beer was the total surprise of the night, and I highly recommend sampling the older vintages of HOTD Rose!! Good stuff!

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2003 Simply stupendous, if you can find this fresh. I tried a '97 and it was totally flat and I certainly let the brewry know. But just wait til you find a '01. I am telling you, it has the best head you will ever see in a beer. One inch thick the whole way down. Huge, creamy head like you see on a punch. Yes, that creamy. I nearly choked on the last sip, it was so dense. Anyhow, I have one problem with it, in that it doesn't age well. It goes flat for some reason after a while, as did the Ruth and Fred. They sday these beers are meant for aging. Maybe they are if they are put into the cellar the day aftre they are bottled. A hands down, perfect Tripel. These guys nailed it!

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2003 (#32) Styrofoam head deeply trenched...Bronze and alive...extremely floral & perfumey, sour pollen...snorting ground flower petals in a freak coke binge...Super fizzy, flavor took awhile to take a stance but eventually flowered...hoppy...notes of old fashioned ribbon candy..alcohol warmth...if this beer was as cheap and readily accessible as..say...bud light...I guarantee that there would be peace on earth...

Batch #35. This beer rocks. One of the best tripels I have ever tasted. Great aroma too. The nose is fruity and rich. Wonderful notes of cream, cinnamon, pears, plums, honey, toffee and butterscotch. This murky honey colored ale has a large, white, rocky head with decent lacing. The flavor is oh so malty and sticky-sweet up front; quickly becoming very lightly tart and lightly bitter on the backside. Perfectly balanced with bursts of alcohol, caramel, dark fruit and cinnamon. Medium-bodied with a dry mouthfeel. Lively carbonation. Medium-length, very dry, alcoholic finish. Reminds me of Victory V10 with less body. Awesome beer.

Loved it. Big citrus and flower aroma, and bready. CReamy, bready, mildly spicy and banana, but not heavy. Sweeter finish with tropical fruits.

12 fl oz bottle. Hazy darkish golden in colour. Potent sweet malty aroma. Very much like a triple. Rich malty sweet flavour. Toffee-like aftertaste, perhaps even some chocolate.

Batch 34. Poured an orange/light amber color with a medium light tan head. Slightly cloudy with light carbonation. Fruity ester aroma with hints of candi sugar, malts, and a trace of caramel. Flavor packed with sweetness from the sugar and malts. Honey aftertaste that coats my mouth. Very enjoyable.
