awaisanen (1140), Irvine, California, USA Jun 4, 2006 From 12oz Bottle, Batch 38. Pours a hazy, thick golden lemon color with a thin layer of nice white head. Scents of mesquite smoked turkey breast mingle with tangerine juice and turnip puree. This is what I love about HOD brews. While this aroma isn’t particulary fantastic, it has a unique signature that is unlike anything else found in its genre. I have to respect that. Medium to heavy bodied mouthfeel with honey, white pepper, and yeasty bread dough coating the palate evenly. This almost has the doughy qualities of chocolate chip cookie dough, minus the chocolate chips, and with a touch too much salt. Alcohol is a bit hot, especially considering the ABV. A bit of banana-ish coconut lingers on the palate after the final smack. Highly unique and worthwhile taste overall, even if it isn’t my favorite example of the style.
ucusty (1062), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 26, 2008 Batch 39. Dark amber pour with fizzy head that quickly dissipates. Brandy, fruit, and sweet malts. Flavor is fresh baked bread, candi sugar, honey and dark fruit. Spicy finish BMan1113VR (792), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Jul 28, 2008 Batch 34 thanks to kyzr. This beer is unlike any other tripel that I have head. Pours with a small, rocky quickly dissapearing head that left no lacing covering a hazy dark amber body that is way too dark for the syle. Aroma of brandy, plums, cherries, raisins, raspberries, sugar and honey. Taste is yeasty with fruits (rasisns and currants), canilla and candi sugar. Taste is good, but not faithful to the style in the slightest. On the syrupy side and nearly flat (again not too style). Alcohol is pronounced for 6%. Unsure how old this batch is. A good beer, but not a tripel in my book! Last 1/4 of the bottle, when added to my glass turned the beer the same color and clarity of mud. Batch 38. Deep golden color with an off-white head. Strong nose of alcohol (port wine/brandy) caramel, raisins and honey. Taste of raisins, pepper and spice. Nice finish. gunnfryd (2743), Kristiansand, Norway Jun 30, 2008 Bottle. Coppar colour with an off-white head. Aroma is alcohol, yeast, caramel, peppar. Flavour is sweet, alcohol, yeast, caramel, flower, pepper. Strange beer, but still a nice one.
