muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Mar 12, 2006 330 ml bottle with a pretty crappy-looking label, served at cellar temperature in a St. Ambroise glass, courtesy of Larry Pitonka. Dark clear walnut with a moderate but quick-disspiating head that leaves a touch of weak lace....cocoa and vanilla prominent in a very sweet, rather powdery aroma, perhaps some coconut and soy as well, rather pleasant if one-dimensionally sugary....wow is the flavor sweet also, damn its candylike and thickly mouthcoating to the point of cottony and sticky at the finish, along the way we meet chocolate nougat rather like a Milky Way Dark (remember them) and just a touch of sour milk, no hops to speak of and a fairly low maltiness, tastes like sugar was added....this is drinkable, but not really something I’d have again, the finish especially is too dull and cloying and the sugar on the teeth really doesn’t work. peter (385), Dallas, Texas, USA Mar 5, 2006 Drinking this is like licking a Hawaiian Tropic Girl. Body is very light in color for a stout. nice aromas of vanila and carmel, with s’more notes. A slightly aciding smooth mouthfeel lends flavours of coconut and coco. Some carmelized sugar flavour is also present. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 3, 2006 Pour is dark brown with a thin tan head...smell is toasty with vanilla, cocoa, light coffee...taste is sweet and toasty with lots of chocolate and vanilla...I think this is a little under-rated... Nuffield (2718), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Feb 28, 2006 Light, irregular head on clear moderate brown body. Vanilla aroma, thin, and bu11zeye was right to suggest toasted marshmallow. Thinnish but hey, it’s an African stout. I would definitely drink this from breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and brush my teeth with it) when in Ethiopia. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Feb 26, 2006 Updated: Mar 10, 2006(Bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a small tan head. Aroma of cocoa, caramel, toasted marshmellow, and vanilla. Flavor of roasted malt, cocoa, and toasted/somewhat burnt marshmellow. A respectable foreign stout. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Feb 26, 2006 Bottle. Nose-vanilla, honey, caramel. Dark iced tea body with a film of bubbles. Taste-chocolate, burnt malts, acrid burnt toast, cinnamon. Not a great beer, but considering its origins, it deserves some acclaim. omhper (12155), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 24, 2006 Bottled. Clear roast red. Spicy licorice aroma. Sweet and grainy, heavily spicy. Light bodied and roasty with somewhat syrupy mouthfeel and lightly salty finish. An interesting beer, but a stout only by the name. weepingsuds (222), Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA Feb 21, 2006 Agree with a previous poster. To thin and fruity as a stout, but decent on its own. Who knew they made this type of beer in Ethiopia?
