3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Kathy (241) - Washington DC, USA - MAY 5, 2002
A very malty/spicy aroma somewhere near molasses (not quite as powerful an aroma, though). The flavor goes down easy, with an unobtrusive port character. The alcohol is also present in the flavor, but not painfully so.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Edmoe (226) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JUN 2, 2011
Good beer but more amber/brown ale than stout. However, this is a good thing in a hot environment I guess. Pleasantly sweet and malty.

Bottle at animal kingdom. Poured hazy brown with a fading tan head. Good lacing for a plastic cup. Not a bad beer but anything is good after a long day with kids.

Agree with a previous poster. To thin and fruity as a stout, but decent on its own. Who knew they made this type of beer in Ethiopia?

Not bad, but no much of a stout. A bit light on flavor and finish. By as my profile says, "If you don’t try it, you can’t say you don’t like it"
2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Chickencoop (188) - California, USA - MAR 31, 2010
Deep brown color but not black as you’d expect with a stout, poured with a white/ tan head with some body to it. Smell had light caramel, boozy, with a faint bit of hops. Big boozy taste with slight malt undertones. Malty mouthfeel that lingers but not totally unpleasant, but just ok. Interesting beer, not much of a stout but overall not that bad as far as a beer, but that being said, I probally wouldn’t get this again.

Pours a dark brown with tan head from the bottle; more like a black lager than stout. Aroma is of licorice, roasted malts, and some coriander. Taste follows suit but not as intense as smell. Well balanced and clean finish; good beer, but not quite as thick as I like for stouts.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2008 Not as yum-yum as the Harar, but it is a darker alternative that keeps its light body and texture for accompanying a gi-normous elephantine feast of Ethiopian delights, which is really this beer’s only purpose. Seriously.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 LadyCooper (100) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - APR 3, 2006
Perfectly drinkable stout, slightly red when held to light. Weird but not bad barbeque sauce-black tea-coffee taste. Would not refuse if given, but probably not going to buy it again.

Pours a deep amber with no head. Flavor and aroma are malt and molasses. Tastes like something between an American strong and an oatmeal stout. Tastes less like it looks than perhaps any beer I’ve ever had. Probably not something I’d drink on its own too often, but goes quite well with Ethiopian food (imagine that.)
