I believe that a beer’s enjoyment level is directly influenced by the context and environment. This stout was pretty sweet, which complemented the spicy Ethiopian food. It was caramelly and dark, with a mollasses and anise kick. It poured dark and rich, with a nice off-white head. carruthm (1125), Seattle, Washington, USA

pours like thin coffee. You can see all through the edges. Cola colored. Short head. Indistinct, didn’t stay around much.
stubby little bottle is cool.
pretty simple nose; burnt malts, caramel malts.
It runs a little smokey, and pleasantly bittersweet. A little fruity, a bit of grass comes through. This is thin, but very drinkable. Exceedingly delicious with Ethiopian foods. Doesn’t overpower any of the delicately spiced legumes, but stands up to the chiles, and the wonderful collard greens. Yeah, it’s kinda thin, and not very complicated, but it sure goes down easily. It’s totally enjoyable with the meal.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 5, 2002 A very malty/spicy aroma somewhere near molasses (not quite as powerful an aroma, though). The flavor goes down easy, with an unobtrusive port character. The alcohol is also present in the flavor, but not painfully so. PorterPounder (3137), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 25, 2003 Excellent coffee and spice aroma with a bit of maltiness. Thin off-white head with decent lacing. Cola appearance - very thin. Faint chocolate notes in the flavor with a bit of licorice in the aftertaste. Chicory coffee flavor also adds to this a bit. Very thin mouthfeel though - especially for a stout. Better than expected. FROTHINGSLOSH (1986), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA

The aroma was sweet, tangy and fruity with noted molasses and a touch of roasty malts. The flavor was bitter, tangy and roasty with light coffee, fruit and molasses. The finish was short. Not a stout at all but pretty tasty anyway. bhensonb (4248), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 1, 2009 Bottle at Queen Sheba in Sacramento, CA. Very hazy dark amber color with a slight beige/tan head. Sweetish caramel aroma. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is like medium dark fruit (raisin/fig/?) and darkish caramel; more sweet than dry. More like a Beglian ale than like the typical stout. Also brings Mongozo to mind. Finishes towards dry with very light bitter. Glad I had it.
