On tap at the brewpub. Hazy golden with a small head. Fruity aroma and flavours, hints of apples. Bitter balance. Boring.

On tap at the brewery, 2007. Unfiltered, cloudy. Thick-looking yellow, darker than the weizen but a pasty, cloudy, yellow with a bit of orange. A good, foamy head. Rich aroma of malt, yeast, hops. Flavor: buttery, creamy, fruity. Great hops—maybe it’s not really a koelsch! Actually, it is, but very well-hopped and flavorful. Good fruitiness and good malt A burning hop finish—unlike any koelsch in Koeln. Great, the hops make it. The buttery flavor is also distinctive, and it is heavier than usual for the type.

My Bottom Line:
Herbal hops pleasure from nose to aftertaste, as crisp hay adds a little crunch to this otherwise svelte quaffer. This is yet another Japanese unfiltered Kölsch that works while never wowing.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A nice head of foam sits atop the hazy straw golden.
-Citrusy fruitiness adds complexity and drinkability.
-Carbonation is comfortable and maltiness lean, which makes for a decent mouthfeel.
-The hoppy bitterness is quite enticing.
