3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, - JUL 26, 2007
My Bottom Line:
The underlying fruitiness of grapes grapples with the caramel maltiness while the roastiness is as light as can be for a Porter. This is not the most conclusive Hakusekikan creation, but it is still a fun pint to down while you slowly burn your BJCP style book.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is barely a ring of foam to garnish the brownish darkness.
-The wild yeast used here is not of the brettanomyces type, and it’s quite understated in the flavor profile.
-The prickly carbonation and lean mouthfeel make this a rather drinkable offering.
-I learned later on that there are 2 special yeasts used in this beer, thus the "Dual" Porter name. The first is the wild yeast extracted from Kyushu honey, and the second is red wine yeast. Crazy and talented, this guy is.
-Once again, the lagering tank version possessed a creamy natural carbonation which the tap at Popeye’s did not have. The honeyed yeast came out much better, the body was rounder, and everything melded into a beautifully unique dessert Porter. I would have given this version 3.8 or so.
On tap at Popeye’s, and from the lagering tank at the brewery.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ernest (5187) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 21, 2011
Draught at Popeye Tokyo (rated Apr 2008).
Head is mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate, caramel, nuts), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of gum and plum.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter.
Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation.
Interesting example, quite rich in the malt department, dare I say decadent. Yummy stuff.
2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nightfall (1263) - Hamburg, GERMANY - NOV 7, 2011
Bottle @ RBESG 09 Shefield ... Black color. Raosted malt aroma, with aramel notes. Flavor is raosted malt with an infected sourness. Too bad, it would have been much beter if it wasn’t infected.

Opaque brown. Tart infection. Wish it was not infected. Flavour is flattened and has a cardboardy plum oneness.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 shadey (1628) - Rochester, New York, USA - SEP 4, 2009
12oz courtesy of KyotoLefty. Pours an oily black with a dark tan ring... more like a stout. The flavors are more stoutish as well, with a sourness that I haven’t tasted in a stout since Harvey’s. Easy enough to drink and nice on the palate.
