Bottle (2007) at ChrisO’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011. Thanks to KyotoLefty. Pours brown with a light, filmy head. Big, sweet nose, light roast, dark fruits, faint tart. Very sweet flavor, heavy and rich, lots of toffee and caramel, cake, cherrie, raisin, booze. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Big warming finish, more dark fruits, brown sugar, toffee. Excellent beer.

A Mes rate. At Chris O’s pre GBBF.
Murky dark brown with a good tan head. Big fruity nose with plenty of fruit and residual sugar. Really good body, loads of depth. Good winey notes. Sugar a plenty and a rich warming barley finish. Excellent beer.

12 ounce bottle bought online from goodbeer.jp. 2007 vintage. Rating number 3100. I drank the new Super Vintage last night, so a nice comparison. Pours a dark red/brown color with a small white head that goes down to a very small bubble. The aroma is earthy rich berries and toffee, some smoke almost. The flavor is rich and tasty; no hints of heat really, some toffee, brown sugar, berries, dry earthiness, mustiness. Quite nice. A bit more of a body than the 11 but not quite as robust or hot. Interesting. As I said with the 11, quite a sipper and a bit like HOTD Matt.

Bottle. 2007 vintage. Pours a dark brownish red color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty slightly vinous dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty vinous flavor with slightly earthy woody hints and some weak hoppy hints. Has a sweetish malty vinous dark fruit finish.

A sweet yet balanced barleywine, with a roasty twist. This 1999 vintage tastes 6months old, not 11 years! Its odd tasting cocoa in a barleywine but it works!

Dark brown pour with a thin beige head. Interesting aroma of port, fruits and caramel. Very good flavor of fruits, port and caramel. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation. This is a great barley wine.

Deep brown in colour with a thin off-white head, light lacing.
Aroma seems a bit old, some gingerbread, cookies and alcohol.
The flavour is pretty much the same as the aroma with a addition of some chocolate malts.
Warm mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation.
Finishes malty, some cookie sweetness and alcohol.

This just seems really old. Possibly the bottles are holding up better then the kegs?

Draught at Dieu du Ciel in Montreal, Quebec.

Sampled on June 3, 2009.

Vintage 2000.
