On tap @ Popeye’s w/TimE: A very dark brown, thin beige ring of a head.A really kicking scent with lots of fruitiness and sweet malts (prunes). Alcohol adds a layer of complexity rather than overpowering as in some BW’s. Has a rich "Port" quality to it. TimeE was right on target with this one, it is a damned good BW!

Aged, on draught at Popeye’s in Tokyo. Almost black, with a bit of Amber. No head to speak of. Rich, fragrant malt aroma, with a good deal of fruit. Moderately sweet, with a strong aroma of Sherry. Hot! Overpowering malt flavor, with a bit of hops. Rather highly attenuated, so not overly sweet. Quite fruity, mild roasting, very strong alcohol. Smooth, rich, hot and strong. Very full body and almost no carbonation. Very tasty, creamy, and fruity with cherries dried fruit and caramel. Very much like a port or Sherry. Excellent.

On draft at Ushi Tora. 2004 Vintage. No other way to say it...this beer fucking rocked! I could have drank a liter of this myself. Granted, I would have been drooling on myself by the end of the night, but it would be worth it. Pours brown with a very tiny brown head. Aroma of a great barley wine...ripe fruits, candi sugar, leather, earthy and alcohol. I could smell it all night. Flavor is not a letdown. Chocolate, vanilla, sweet fruit and awesome alcohol burn...very nice. Full body and smoothly dangerous. I want more!!!

On tap at Popeye, Tokyo. 2000 vintage. Dark brown with a small froth. Superior complex aroma with raisins, nuts and chocolate as well as potent sour fruit. Chocolate, raisins and everything that tastes good. Smooth as velvet and full-bodied without being sirupy. Top-notch beer.

12 oz. bottle, 2000 Vintage, courtesy of hogfodder. Pour is brown black with just a rim of a tan head. Aroma of scotchy peaty earthy sweetness caramel, though the whole mix is somewhat muted. Taste is winey, caramelly, a bit earthy and grassy. Also quite a bit of dried fruit in the taste as well. Really good. Thanks for sharing this one Rick!

2000. 12-oz. Thanks, Hogfodder! Super dark mahogany, crystal clear, with big caramel golden highlights. Still, flat, headless, laceless. Huge port, dates, figs, and raisins on the nose, along with peat and iodine. Medium, oily body. Port and raisins on the mid-palate. Long figgy/datey finish. Great stuff.
