IslandHaole (1030), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Nov 12, 2007 On tap @ Popeye’s w/TimE: A very dark brown, thin beige ring of a head.A really kicking scent with lots of fruitiness and sweet malts (prunes). Alcohol adds a layer of complexity rather than overpowering as in some BW’s. Has a rich "Port" quality to it. TimeE was right on target with this one, it is a damned good BW!
KyotoLefty (202), Kyoto, Japan Sep 20, 2008 Aged, on draught at Popeye’s in Tokyo. Almost black, with a bit of Amber. No head to speak of. Rich, fragrant malt aroma, with a good deal of fruit. Moderately sweet, with a strong aroma of Sherry. Hot! Overpowering malt flavor, with a bit of hops. Rather highly attenuated, so not overly sweet. Quite fruity, mild roasting, very strong alcohol. Smooth, rich, hot and strong. Very full body and almost no carbonation. Very tasty, creamy, and fruity with cherries dried fruit and caramel. Very much like a port or Sherry. Excellent. miketd (375), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Aug 17, 2008 On draft at Ushi Tora. 2004 Vintage. No other way to say it...this beer fucking rocked! I could have drank a liter of this myself. Granted, I would have been drooling on myself by the end of the night, but it would be worth it. Pours brown with a very tiny brown head. Aroma of a great barley wine...ripe fruits, candi sugar, leather, earthy and alcohol. I could smell it all night. Flavor is not a letdown. Chocolate, vanilla, sweet fruit and awesome alcohol burn...very nice. Full body and smoothly dangerous. I want more!!! thebeertourist (1889), Oslo, Norway Apr 5, 2008 On tap at Popeye, Tokyo. 2000 vintage. Dark brown with a small froth.
