Bottle from Happy’s Market, Ellensburg, WA; no ABV on bottle
Hazy amber color, medium sized head. A good American Barley Wine, as it’s well malty, noticeable from the moment you pour; sweet, rich, with nice hopping, lowering bitterness, but still good fruits and hop resins.
Very good, but probably not fresh.

Bottle - Sweet earthy hops and caramel. Dirty gold with a decent off white head. Sweet caramel and bitter hops with a long sweet bitter finish. Not bad.

22 oz bottle @ Hale’s. Pours cloudy dark orange with thin white head. Aroma is thin sugary sweet malt and muted citrus hops. Taste is similar: thin malt is quickly overwhelmed by heavy sugary sweetness which pushes through the hops on the finish. Some nice big flavors in the hops - pine, orange, and grass - but again they’re really obscured by the lingering sweetness of the malt. Not that bad, really, but... odd beer.

Serving: from tap at Smarty Pants. Aroma: moderate, piney hoppy aroma. Appearance: small, creamy, off-white, initial head with fair lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Cloudy, medium-amber body. Taste: heavily bitter initial flavor, and heavily sour grapefruit-like finish with long duration. Palate: medium-to-heavy bodied with dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall: huge taste but too heavy-handed for me.

On tap at brewery. Ahh... the ubiquitous IIPA. A requirement of all west coast breweries. I was very impressed by the smoothness of the beer for the high alcohol level. Very easy to drink.

22 oz. from Chuck’s @ $8.99. After a half-dozen beers or so from Hale’s without a single one so much as memorable, I was hesitant to even try this one. But it’s an imperial IPA, so why not! Simply blown away (and not just in comparison to their other beers). This is a big and boozy IPA that really calls for sipping with a cigar. Woodsy, malt and bitter through and through.

Sample at the brewpub. This brew pours a clear deep amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of hops, fruit and sweet malt. Medium to full body with flavors of floral hops, earthy malt and fruit. The finish is hoppy with a short citrus aftertaste. Decent overall.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is dense hoppy, light malty note. Thick malty, orange fruity and dense grapefruity. Smooth and fruity finish.

22oz bottle. Chunky, thick orange tan. Steady, creamy beige head. Thick, resinous hop aroma. Piny, deep burnt caramel notes. Smooth yeast tones add another layer of depth. Despite the moderate ABV, this one comes off just as thick and rich as an 11% beer can...not really an alcohol burn as much as a rich, malty body. Relatively standard for the style, in a good way. Lots of hop depth. Nice.
