Brown color, hazy, with small head. Strange aroma, dusty, earthy, with an impression of beans, vegetables soup / minestrone; some wood. Smooth mouthfeel, with correct body strength; it has caramel flavor with moderate residual sweetness; the wood aging is evident but doesn’t cover the other flavors, it provides a pleasant liquor feeling, light vanilla; the final is also a bit peppery, and drier.
A bit strange, but not bad.

On tap at Brouwer’s for Big Wood, pours a dark brown / black with a small tan head. Aroma of strong bourbon on the nose, caramelized sugar, booze and more bourbon. Flavour is very sweet with heaps of caramel, accentuated with a very bourbon-dominated body, finishing sweet and boozy. Cloying a bit in sweetness but very good.

Bomber from Belmont Station. Pours hazy dark amber/brown with a 3 finger creamy beige head. Aroma is bourbon/vanilla. Full bodied. Very. Flavor is bourbon/vanilla extreme with a hint of smoke. As the intense flavors wash away there’s some herb and something unidentifiable but interesting. Makes me think of shortbread. This drinks really well. Great ale.

A dark copper amber ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light bourbon barrel, pepper, nice. In mouth, a sweet dark fruity caramel malt with good licorice, bourbon barrel, a bit thin, OK. Shared with GRM and Boutip. Merci Sylvain.

Bottle… Mostly clear burnt-orange ale with a small, creamy, khaki, head. Good retention. The aroma is a luxuriant mélange of caramel, bourbon, coconut and vanilla. Medium-bodied and oily with tingly carbonation. The flavor is of harsh, overbearing bourbon eclipsing some very nice notes of caramel and vanilla. Finishes bourbony-hot, caramely and dry. Bottle generously shared by newcigarz!

Hmmm? What to do? Sit on it another year or two and the harsh bourbon should mellow and hopefully mesh more nicely with the caramel, vanilla and coconut notes. However, this stuff is only medium-bodied now and is already fairly dry in the finish. Therefore, if you sit on it another year, it may attenuate a bit too much, becoming light-bodied, astringent and dry and losing some of those nice caramel and vanilla notes. Who knows? Who cares? Sit on a bottle and see what happens. There’s definitely promise here. Hell, it’s pretty darned good right now.

"On the light side in color, body and abv for a barreled beer, but it works pretty well. Definitely on the fruity side, with the barreling showing well. The only knock is a very slight astringency prevelant in scotch ales ocassionally, though it does go away as it warms. Not a prefect beer, but wuite enjoyable. I’d love to try the base."

22. Pours a murky dark ebony with a dense and creamy tan head that sticks around and around. Loose pillowy sedimentary rings of tan lace. Sweet molasses nose, vanilla and spices under. Creamy silky thick body. Toast, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, gingerbread, and caramel on the mid palate. Smooth, sweet, harmonious, and decadent. Mild sweet finish. Very nice beer.

Bottle:   Deep caramel, moderate tannish head, fairly nice lacing.   Bourbon on the nose, soft graham cracker, vanilla, and campfire.   Warming up front, a bit of an alcohol bite.   Graham cracker, soft vanilla, and a bit of charred wood make up the bulk of this one.   I think back to the regular Wee Heavy and my thoughts are that its not big enough to carry a lengthy aging in a barrel.   As I finish this, the underlying beer is surpassed by the assertive aging.   Don’t get me wrong, its enjoyable, but I think a little less aging and a little less heat would have done much more for this one.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Could stand to be a little more silky.   Finish is a little astringent.   Otherwise some hot Bourbon notes, graham cracker, charred wood/campfire, and fading vanilla.   Decent, but only marginally better than the original.   Certainly feels a little bigger/heavier than its little brother.
