3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber. Dark crimson and mahogany colored in appearance with a ring of pale amber foam. Plenty of bourbon, caramel and vanilla in the aroma along with some dark fruit toward the end. The taste opens up with a healthy serving of toffee, caramel malt and vanilla followed by notes of currant, fig and oak. The bourbon flavor is evident throughout but relatively mild for a BA beer. The body is moderately creamy with medium-level carbonation and a slightly boozy, malted finish. Definitely one of the brewery’s more enjoyable offerings with just enough bourbon to enhance all the flavors.

Wee Heavy Aged in Kentucky Oak Barrels
"This special edition of our winter ale was actually brewed in the summer! Aged in Kentucky Oak barrels for six months, the beer has flavors reminiscent of currants, caramel, and bourbon. Enjoy."
A: pours a hazy, toasted date color with a transient finger of light peanut foam. The foam is fine in nature and sticks around as a centrally dissipating dome and a confluent ring. Spotty lace.
S: The barrel is strong in this one. Bourbon up front, but not alcoholic, sweet and appreciable. Some nice creamy malts, caramel, brown sugar and hints of dates.
T: Mmm. This is good. Wow. Bourbon is well balanced in this brew. What a find! Some nice sweet malts are bready and young. Theres a note of yeast in this as well. Vanilla and the slightest hint of bitterness. Underlying pekoe tea as well.
M: Medium bodied with some light, smooth carbonation. Theres a wet and solid feel to the finish and the alcohol then warms the throat ever so slightly (like the third or fourth exhale after a shot of strait whiskey).
O: I’m really impressed with this beer. I saw it sitting on the shelf at the grocer, and nabbed one. Really dug the flavor on this one. Really nice. Might be grabbing a few more of these.

Pours mahogany finger white head.
Smell is really peaty and fruity.
Taste muted whiskey up front, sweet figs and raisins on tail.
Much lighter bodied than expected, sweet.
Almost reminds me more of rum than whiskey. Interesting.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle: Poured a copper color ale with a small foamy head with OK retention and some light lacing. Aroma of woody notes with some grilled corn notes with light bourbon and vanilla notes. Taste is a weird mix of grilled corn, vanilla, bourbon with a bitter and astringent finish which is not the most pleasant. Body is light for style with medium carbonation and light warming alcohol. Unbalanced with too much corn notes coming through with also too much astringency for the style.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Bottleworks, Seattle. Hazy pour somewhere in between red, orange and brown. Very thin head. Nice barrel notes in the aroma, even if they’re a little shy to come forth. Sticky fruit on the tongue plus charred wood. Decent stuff, but a little weak in terms of flavour. I wonder how it would fare without the barrel.

A dark copper amber ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light bourbon barrel, pepper, nice. In mouth, a sweet dark fruity caramel malt with good licorice, bourbon barrel, a bit thin, OK. Shared with GRM and Boutip. Merci Sylvain.

Light unclear medium brown - red amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, nutty, caramel, light dusty chocolate, light woody. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, caramel, laberlarver. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Murky dark woody amber color with lightly frothed head. Light woody and cabernet nose, which is true of the flavor as well. Quite nuanced. While the cabernet-wood flavors are there, they certainly don’t dominate across the medium scotch-malted underpinning.

Bottle from Community Food Co-op - N Forest St, Bellingham, WA
Brown color, hazy, with small head. Strange aroma, dusty, earthy, with an impression of beans, vegetables soup / minestrone; some wood. Smooth mouthfeel, with correct body strength; it has caramel flavor with moderate residual sweetness; the wood aging is evident but doesn’t cover the other flavors, it provides a pleasant liquor feeling, light vanilla; the final is also a bit peppery, and drier.
A bit strange, but not bad.
