Cloudy light amber with good lace. Long citrus hop finish. Underhopped for IPA

Brass appearance with a creamy head which yielded to an initially creamy mouthfeel. The hops in this beer are quite reserved for a Northwest IPA. A decent introduction to the style--the hops never get out of hand. Well balanced and a good beer to have in your hand--just not an exceptional or unique offering.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 KingPinHead (390) - Des Moines, Washington, USA - JUN 24, 2002
The head on my Imperial pint of this stuff was a bit thin--otherwise, this is an outstanding offering. Aroma is fruity/floral/hoppy and with plenty of it. As for flavor, malt comes through nicely to balance very prominent hop profile--excellent bitterness without strident harshness. Finishes pleasantly dry with subtle fruity accompaniment...as fine an IPA as will be found in the Northwest.
4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 Shadallion (531) - Sacramento, California, USA - AUG 5, 2001
The best English (style) IPA I’ve ever had. Toasty, fruity flavors (Hale’s house character) are married perfectly with an understated, but very bitter, hoppiness. The thinking man’s India Pale Ale. This might actually be better than the phenomenal pale ale. Brewer Mike Hale might just be God incarnate.
4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Oakes (10191) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 30, 2000
A relatively underrated beer (and brewery for that matter) by afficionados, but I think this is a wonderfully aromatic and easy going West Coast IPA, well worth seeking out, especially on cask.
