Though our Kolsch is offered all year long on draft, we do feature it in 12oz. bottles as our Summer "Seasonal" beer. Hale’s version of this traditional German light ale won a Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2010! It is similar to pilsner in flavor, light, subtle and thirst quenching. 5.1% ABV 10 IBUs Malts: Pilsner ~ Torrefied Wheat Hops: Saaz ~ Sterling Original Gravity: 12° Plato

Draught at the brewery. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a smallish white head on there. Nose has quite a bit of corn to it, but also has some berry to it, which surprised me. Taste was slightly sweet and fairly refreshing. Easy drink that I enjoyed...

12oz bottle, purchased from Brennan’s in Madison during GTMW. Exp: 09/08/14. Mildly hazy golden orange color. Thin white head. Leaves decent rows of lace. Bready aroma, kind of like a lager. Mild roughness to it. Medium body. Smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Moderate bitter taste, lighter sweet, a light bite on the end. OK kolsch. Probably much better fresh. An alright one to wash my sandwich down with.

Love this version of a Kolsch. Best summer beer I know. So good would buy all year if I could.

Draught at Anthony’s (Sea-Tac Airport)
Served too cold. Light blond color, hazy, with small compact head. Kölsch is a delicate and complicated style to brew; this beer is light but doesn’t seem to capture the essence of Kölsch; it’s light bodied, dry, with very light cereal character. Slightly more interest in the aroma than the flavor. Nothing else.

Bottled unk A: golden straw ale with only a central cap of bone white foam. Excellent clarity. No lace. S: dry grain and hints of grass. Pretty simple to do, and nice. T: sweet and creamy. Corn and hints of yeast. M: light and sparkly. Body is right. Carb a hint low. O: easy drinking. Serving type: bottle 08-20-2011

On tap at Baileys Taproom. Colour...light straw with a thin white head. Nose...delicately floral with hints of honey and honeysuckle. Palate... lightly frothy, with a tangy grassiness, a slight bit of dryness, and a mildly husky flavour. Not much going on here, in the flavour department, but not offensive either.

On tap at brewery. Light color pour, with minimal head. Very light aroma and flavor. Not a lot going on here, but if it was a hot day, this would certainly be refreshing.

On tap at The Copper Hog, pours a clear blond with a small white head. Aroma of cereal malts and dry crackers. Flavour is quite dry with dry toasted bread, crackery malts and not much else. Dry but fairly flavourless and almost a sparkling water carbonation-like flavour.

For me it was a blend of a pale ale with a lager, because it has a dry aftertaste. Very strange beer, I have to try an original German one.
