Nut Brown Ale is a dark “session beer” -- lots of great beer character but not too high in alcohol. This ale is well balanced, featuring a distinctively malty structure that makes for very pleasant drinking. 5.2% ABV 14 IBUs Malts: 2-Row Pale ~ Crystal 60L & 120L ~ Victory ~ Chocolate ~ Aromatic Hops: Columbus ~ Mount Hood ~ "Experimental" hop Original Gravity: 13° Plato

Sample at the brewpub. Deep amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and nuts. Light-bodied with a roasty character and flavors of sweet malt, nuts and fruit. The finish is sweet with a short nutty aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

12 oz. Pours an opaque dark brown with clearer dark brown edges. Virtually no head, lace, or legs. Big roasty nose with a toasty nutshell note. Creamy medium body with decently lively carb. Roast, black bread, and nuts on the mid palate. Certainly appealing enough, just not really complex enough to be very interesting.

Bottled. Poured clear garnety-brown with a short-lived beige head. The aroma picked up nutty and caramel sugars laced with an odd fruity vinegar character.. smelled like it was possibly a little infected, but the bottle wasn’t old. The flavor found nutty and fruity sweetness at the core.. the sourness was still there, and it didn’t much help.. dried out on the back-end, but it still left residual sugars.. tacky sour fruit skins stuck on the finish. Light-medium bodied with a poor flow across the palate.. this was just off.

Bottle pours a clear mahogany, medium to large frothy head, decent lacing, with little to no carbonation.   Malty nose, slightly biscuity, and a tad bit roasted.   Maybe light hints of chocolate malt.   Slight malt flavor, a bit sweet, with a hint of carob.   Minor astringency.   Medium bodied, but the mouthfeel seems a bit thin.   Malty finish (albeit thin), semi-sweet, but with a slight sour/astringent twang.   Blech...

UPDATED: APR 8, 2008 Aroma of nuts and roast, with something that is a little odd too. Pours brown - no shit. Somewhat sweet with roasted nuts, and something weird. Finishes with a moderate hop bitterness. I don’t get what is going on here. It is drinkable, but odd.

On tap at Brewpub Seattle. Pours out a clear brown topped with a white head. Nice nut and a little vanilla as well. Pretty good.

Pours a reddish brown. Small tan head. Nutty head along with some sweeter malt notes. Taste is hoppily nutty. Bittered hops and some nutty notes along with fainter malt tones. The body is a little thin. Some dryness towards the finish. Decent beer.

12oz shorty bottle. Deep toffee-brown color, with a foamy head that laces the sides of the glass. Toffee, coffee aroma. Rich, medium bodied, on the verge of full. Mossy, with an odd twangy tartness to complement the sticky sweet malt tones. Piny, with some pungent caramel undertones. A really odd beer, possibly infected. Some harsh brown chocolate bitterness. Lots of interesting ingredients, but a rather poorly executed product.
