First brewed in 1988, O’Brien’s Harvest Ale is a much anticipated autumn classic and one of the Northwest’s original seasonal ales. For the last 21 years Hale’s brewers have ushered in the fall season by crafting a delicious, hearty seasonal ale that features generous amounts of select hops. This year’s O’Brien’s Harvest Ale is a reintroduction of the recipe we used in 2007 which was a Silver Medal winner at GABF.

One of the better seasonal beers I have had. Super hoppy and really bitter. I would say it is more an ipa than anything else. Smells hoppy an has a bitter finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, via Beer Boxer. Pours a dark opaque deep reddish orange amber color with a very small head. Nose is citrus and bitter with some pine and resin. Taste is bitter with some citrus and subtle sweetness. Drinkable , but not earth shattering.Finish is bitter as well, and ends on the sour citrus resin notes. Quaff Score 7 / 10

Pours an amber orange with a beige head and aroma of toasted malt and caramel. Well balanced, with sweet, toasted malt, bittering hops, citrus, caramel, straw, and bready notes with a slight bitter finish. Drinkable, solid ale

Nice crisp amber coloured body with a copper glow and a two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of bright citrus hops with pine, alcohol, resin and a bunch more fresh hops - very nice. Medium-bodied; Assertive fresh hop flavour with piney and citrus flavour, some earthy toffee and a great malt backbone. Aftertaste shows a great hop bitterness with a sweet finish from the caramel, a little earthiness, but a perfectly balanced malt backbone. Overall, a great beer and one that should be sampled by everyone - if you can get it, that is. I sampled this 12 ounce stubby bottle purchased from Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington on 10-February-2013 for US$1.33 sampled at home in [the real] Washington on 07-March-2013.

Cask served in an imperial pint at Capone’s in Coeur D’Alene. Pours a mostly clear gold-amber with a finger of soft off-white head. Aroma of sweet and bready malts, toffee, sugar, citrusy hops, and a bit of buttered popcorn. The flavor works better, with some good fresh citrusy hops, caramel malts, resin, tea, and nectar. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. Nice hoppy amber.

Dark amber with a sepia tint. Hearty head and generous lacing down the glass. The nose is a mix of caramel and hazelnut. Medium to full bodied, this enters with some sweetish malts, but yields quickly to a heavy dose of hop bitterness. Clean, crisp mouthfeel.
