Commercial Description:
First brewed in 1988, O’Brien’s Harvest Ale is a much anticipated autumn classic and one of the Northwest’s original seasonal ales. For the last 21 years Hale’s brewers have ushered in the fall season by crafting a delicious, hearty seasonal ale that features generous amounts of select hops. This year’s O’Brien’s Harvest Ale is a reintroduction of the recipe we used in 2007 which was a Silver Medal winner at GABF.

Pour is almost opaquely hazed amber with a thin tan head...smell is hoppy with lots of grapefruit and hints of bread behind it...taste is sharply bitter hoppy up front with sweet citric notes rounding out the flavor...quick sweet finish...

On tap at Hales Ales Seattle pours out a clear amber topped with a tan cream head. A nice combo of sweet malts and light hops. A nice little bitter end on this brew.

Bottle. Pours dark amber, big head, lively carbonation. Aroma and flavor fall on the malty side, a tad perfumey. Somewhat of a thin mouthfeel and stale. However, I believe that this beer would be much better back in the fall when it was supposed to be consumed. Overall, it is a decent amber.

The color is dark and murky. The flavor is fresh and floral. The flavor is hoppy and dry. Great find in the bargain bin.

2008 Bottle - Pours amber with very little head...aroma is sweet malt, citrus, not as floral as some of the other fresh hopped ales, flavour is straighforward and enjoyable, freshness of the hops does however come thru in the taste, well balanced caramel malt...finishes bitter in the mouth but sweet on the lips...good brew...

The hops are smoother, blends well with the malt, a nice caramel. A little sweet but pours pretty.

Autumnal orange hue with a fine head and a pungent aroma of hops. Like the Hales blonde, this too was a bit flat--detracting slightly from the overall score. Smooth with not a whole lot of flavor, though it leaves a hoppy sour note on the palate.
