Pint, on draft at Virginia Inn, Seattle, WA. Dark copper with thin light head, could smell the hops as it was served to my beermat. Wonderful citrus and light pine aroma, hints of grass and lemon. So much good hop in the nose. The body was perfect, rich sweet malts to balance the big hops. Surprised at the gravity here and the gracious amount of alcohol. It’s a big beer that is the perfect vehicle for the big fresh harvested hop delivery. eaten witha nice cheeseplate on the outside patio watching the tourists walk by...perfect.

Pint @ norms. The high rating fooled me. This this just another thin hales ale. Pretty sire this is the same as their ipa. Amehzing.

This is an IPA, I don’t care WHAT the brew calls it. It’s pretty bitter like most IPA brewed in America now, but there is absolutely nothing special going on with this beer. I guess it’s ok, but I’m just so bored with this over reliance on bitterness. Wake up America...there are better styles out there.

2010 bottle. Cloudy very dark amber with a thin head. Very nice sweet orange and grapefruit aroma. That is one hoppy amber ale. I think it may be a PNW conspiracy to label some IPAs as Ambers to make me admit to liking Ambers. Nice bocy, nice balance, great hoppy zing!

Clear amber orange, thin beige head. Aroma of citrus, pine. Taste is bitter, great hop profile here, well balanced with floral and citrus and then bitterness. Nice malty body as well. Solid beer, long bitter finish.

Bottle. Red brown with beige clings. Slightly funky, malty, some citrus. Citrus ending, some caramel, fairly mild.

Cask @ E9. Cloudy amber pour which resolves to hazy and then clear in short order. Off white, persistant head which leaves minimal lace. Hoppy aroma with a slightly cardboard or wet hay overlay. Medium body, nicely balanced, but not my favorite Hales.

This beer is fantastic. I avoided it for the longest time because I thought it would be a shitty oktoberfest style beer. It’s a deliciously hoppy delight. Lots of citrus and well balanced. A very robust amber, in good company with African Amber. $3 pints during happy at Alibi Room. Can’t beat it.

12 oz bottle from Bier Stein. Amber pour with a small white head. One of the sweetest smelling beers I’ve ever encountered, all caramel and sugar with a little bit of pine hops at the end. Flavor is full of caramel as well, but not quite as sweet since it has a big citrus and pine hop kick at the end. Solid brew.

Bottle served in an English pint. Nice pour. Deep, dense amber-orange-brown in color with a medium sized light beige head of considerable retention and persistent creamy lacing. The aroma has sweet caramel, fruit, floral, and chocolate. Flavor is both sweet and bitter. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, with bitter-astrigency dominating the long finish. Quality autumn brew. Can’t wait for the Wee Heavy to return.

If this is really an amber it’s probably the best I’ve had. Aroma is caramel and bready malt with nice citrus and resin hop scents. Amber-orange color, somewhat hazy and a great frothy head that mostly fades fairly quickly but a thin sheet persists. Medium caramel and toffee malt sweetness with a medium high level of citrus and resiny bitterness. Medium body, slick and slightly sticky texture, medium+ carbonation. Hops on attack, nice malt appearance in the middle for balance and a tasty and lengthy finish that has my tongue doing the lupulin dance.
