obguthr (778), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Jul 2, 2009 Wonderfully complex aroma of marshmallow, soy sauce, charcoal, and figs. Black, viscous pour, no head. Dates, charred oak, and currants, off balanced and quite sour. I swear I taste limes too. Charred oak and smoke finish. With better balance and more earthy notes, this would rock. snakeoilpete (276), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 13, 2009 On tap at Hale’s. Pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma is smoky, peaty, roasty malts with coffee, chocolate, and molasses. These strangely blend together in the taste like a sweet, tangy citrusy BBQ sauce (orange/lime). Medium bodied with that BBQ finish. Not bad as a beer, but probably more impressive as a marinade. robforbes (985), Bremerton, Washington, USA May 12, 2009 pours an opaque with a thin brown head, and no lacing.
smell of licorice, some sour malt, espresso, cocoa, and some smoke.
taste is thick, smoke, dark chocolate, licorice, some roasted nuts, and sour malt, ends dry and sour. anders37 (3930), Malmö, Sweden May 5, 2009 Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate and coffee aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and licorice flavor with some hints of coffee. Has a roasted malty chocolate and licorice finish. Immy (1902), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Apr 26, 2009 Bomber. Pitch black with a decent tan head. Very roasty/burnt nose, some chocolate. Creamy chocolate and light fruit flavors. Kinda plain Jane, but solid nonetheless. NachlamSie (1568), Tennessee, USA Mar 26, 2009 Bomber. This is an inky beer with no head. Aroma is vinous leaning with hints of figs, plums, raisins, and molasses. It does not seem too roasty. The palate is dense with a sharp flavor, actually almost metallic. The finish has roasted coffee. This is kind of sour with hints at grapes. Moderate flavors of molasses and dark chocolate identify this as a stout. This is not what I want from an imperial stout, but it was decent. This is juicy and vinous for the style. TURDFERGUSON (1448), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Jan 8, 2009 Bottle shared by ucusty. Thanks David. Pours black with no head or lace. Nose is roasted malts, molasses, cocoa. Flabvor is more of the same. Another blah imperial stout. emacgee (1656), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Dec 31, 2008 Shared by ucusty. Pours an inky black with a chestnut brown head. The nose is smoky, roasty, chocolate and coffee, mild fruityness. The flavor is roasty, coffee, chocolate, astringent, molasses, rich flavor. The palate was bitter and roasty. Not too bad.
