Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 25, 2004 Black, with thin brown head. licourish, smoke and hints of vanilla in the smell. Coffee, chocolate at first, then a cherry, winey flavor becomes dominant. Notes of blueberry and blackberry crop up, as does some coffee and earthy, woodsy flaovrs. Very Nice, a bit more quaffable than some other Imp Stouts. Thanks, Secret Santa! Volgon (2487), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 22, 2004 RBSG 2004: Black with a nice light brown head that stayed around for a while. Roasted chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Oily texture, starts and ends lightly sweet. BückDich (4785), McCall, Idaho, USA Jul 14, 2004 Pitch black oil, thin head & lacing. Dark brown colored. The aroma is fairly strong with booze, soy sauce, dusty mocha. The flavor is salty, astringant, too roasty. Finishes with light hops & roast/mocha. Finishes tangy, more salty, eh, kinda one dimentional. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 14, 2004 Black pour with a dark tan creamy head. Nice lace. Vinous aromas with cinnamon, grapes, sweet malts, biscuits and some sour hops. Chocolate malt flavors along with roast and coffee. Some more vinous qualities. Sour. Caramel and some bitter hops. Nicely complex. Oily palate, a bit sticky. Finishes with a bitter bite with roasted alcohol. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Jul 11, 2004 bottle. ive been wanting to try this one for a while. fortunately the store i went to in VA had it!! pours out dark black color with the usual tan head. smells malty, hoppy, and roasted. also has a hint of chocolate in it. taste is sour, watery, and thin. not really what i was expecting. has a nice roasted flavor though. but i just cant get over how thin this beer is. kind of a disappointment, but hey, nothing is a true disappointment when i cant legally buy this in my own state. duff (5474), Surrey, Greater London, England Jun 24, 2004 Tap@Hales. As far as Imperial stouts go, its probably average, but this is still very nice, tasty. Rich bitter chocolate flavour, sweetish, light roast. Not too much depth of flavour, but there were no major problems. I Like the name. unclebleen (620), California, USA Jun 10, 2004 Pours a super dark brown, just about black black color with an initially large mocha head that dissipates into a rimming fine bubbled head. Aroma is caramel malt, roasted, chocolate and some acidic notes as well. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, sour fruit, and some great hop notes. Body is full and creamy with the 8% alcohol well hidden. A very good imperial stout. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jun 7, 2004 Pours a rich oily opaque black with a thick dark tan head. Aroma of caramel roasted malt and sour cherries. Entire body is an overly sour acidic burning mess. Whatever malty complexities that once might have existed have been overrun by an, I’m guessing, infection. Aroma and appearance are its only two redeeming qualities. I wanted to like this one, but the sourness makes it almost undrinkable.
