3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the 2004 Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival. Black beer with a creamy brown head and an oily mouthfeel. Hints of licorice, vanilla and a wood acidity. Strong hop finish. Very easy drinking imperial stout.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours thick like oil. Aroma is very interesting; I'm getting vanilla and toffee, along with a hint of alcohol and astringency, maybe a little sweet and plumby as well. Medium body, what a huge espresso feel! Bitterness is matched, and the aftertaste is the similar, just slowly fades and leaves with a hint of coffee and hops. Not incredibly complex, but a worthy stout none the less.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
VERY espressoey. Whew...almost too much - bit astringent really. I'm not sure if Catherine the Great wanted her beer half full of Starbuck's grounds, but it's surely not necessary. After the beer warms a bit a savory chocolate quality takes hold along with some smokey caramel bringing me back out of my espresso shock. The alchohol is a bit on the frontlines, but that is to be expected with Imperial Stouts. Who the hell is Pikop anyway?

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
I wished I kept this for a horizontal tasting. Its an good Imp Stout. Chocolatey and somewhat fruity(maybe prunes or raisins?). Pretty sweet for an Imperial. Its got the burnt flavors too(coffee). A little less chewyness than the Imp. that I've had recently. Excellent brew! A

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black bodied with a chocolate cream head. Beautiful hershey's chocolate aroma and a creamy chocolate body with a slight burntness on the palate. This is tasty stuff and makes for a great session imperial. It has nice chocolate notes, but without quite the richness of a dessert stout and it lacks strong alcohol oomph. Excellently balanced and finely crafted.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bought this (2/2/2003) at Ballard Market. Practically black pour with a dark brown head that actually sticks around. Good looking stuff. Tart roasty aroma, chocolate, coffee, and pie cherries. Notes of peppers, melons, licorice, and bananas. Somewhat sweet flavor that finishes out with a peppery melon roastiness. Seemed to be missing something in the flavor (not quite watery though, but not robust enough). The body was quite full and the palate smooth. Needs a little tweaking, but I hope they keep this one around. Potential to be great.
