COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big, but not huge, this American Chocolate Rye Stout fires off a lot of coffee and chocolate notes. Balances well, but rides high on hop character at 60 IBU’s while the Rye finishes it dry. A specialty brew. Grab it when you see it.

This special version was served via cask and aged on rum soaked raisins

This is actually half acre blanco niño. It is an ipa made from one hopp. Tastes wheaty and pours light yellow like a wheat. Had at the half acre tap room. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

sampled at day of the living ales. this was extremely sweet, boozy, and well just a mess. aroma had dark fruits and boose. big sweet malty beer with booze soaked raisins throughout, really lacking structure and for the most part undrinkable.

Cask at DotLA. Was excited for this, but alas. Pours deep brown with low head. Nose is odd. Some booze and sweetness, raisins are noticeable. Sticky sweet in the nose with cocoa. On tasting, I think the raisins and low carb have really thinned this out. Some harsh malt and black notes as well. Sweet and somewhat unpleasant. I wish this had the balance of the base beer but it just exploits all of the slightly negatives. A shame, I wanted this to be awesome like Vanilla Baume was last year...

Cask pour at Day/Night of the Living Ales 2013 at Goose Island - Wrigleyville (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer deep blackish pour, dark and near opaque. Touch of a ruby brown glow on the edges and bottom. Small loose tannish head atop laces small. Aromas are cocoa, rye, some dark fruit. Touch of rum, brown sugar, vanilla, and more cocoa. Sticky caramel, toffee, and mellow toast. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, firm roast up front, toasty and carmelized, a good cocoa and rye meld into the middle. Some dry and toasty elements tail out into more of that sweeter mild and backend. Toffee, raisins, gentle brown sugar. Faint rum influence melds. A bit sweet, we move into a sweeter toffee backend, toasty, rye, gentle cocoa and roast. Sticky raisins, some earth, cocoa and Reisin chew. Cocoa, roast, dark fruit, plum and raisin, some prune. Solid beer, could use a bit more carbonation, a touch messy and sweet because of it. Ok.
