3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle. Pours a dark chocolate brown that is nearly black and topped by a small layer of khaki colored foam that quickly recedes and leaves patches of lace on the glass. The aroma shows notes of dark roasted malts, coffee, baker’s chocolate, and spicy rye with some earthy hop bitterness in the back ground. The flavor follows with more dark baker’s chocolate and dry roasted coffee up front followed by the spicy rye and a nice earthy hop bitterness in the back. Medium bodied with balanced carbonation that leads to a dry, spicy rye finish. Nothing crazy, but a tasty and solid rye stout.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very successful beer that is easy to enjoy. Rich chocolate with a twang that says rye. The palate is good but not over the top. Enjoyable. On tap in Chicago.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: APR 7, 2015 On tap, poured into a shaker. The beer is a dark, almost opaque, brown-black topped by a soft, creamy, light brown head that has abundant retention and lacing. The aroma is a strong burnt toast and rye bread (burnt rye bread?) note with a light chocolate undertone. It’s a medium / medium-high bitter with a supporting, medium-light sweetness. The texture is somewhere between oily and syrupy with a soft, creamy carbonation. The body is full of roasted rye and dark chocolate notes that linger through the finish and leaves a spicy rye aftertaste (much rye!).

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Shared bomber poured to snifters, showing a black/brown hue, with a presentable layer of off white/light tan head foam, and waves & spots of lacing. The nose was roasted & dry, with notes of coffee & baker’s chocolate, a little smoke, and a mildly disconcerting, but fleeting vegetal hint. Medium bodied, with average carbonation, the taste was similar, and included good potency to the roasted & earthy hop bitterness, and dry finish. Nothing off the charts, but decent.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This version strikes me as more back of tongue bitter. Which I don't care for here. Before and after that I like the base and nice dark khaki head. But the first beer from new brewery let's me down a little bit:( but you will have that!

Bomber from the brewery. Strong chocolate and cocoa on the nose. Black with a brown head which sticks around nicely. Really great flavor, nice hoppy stout. Would love to drink this again. No real alcohol flavoring.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From notes-On tap, pours a typical dark color with a thin tan head. Aroma of burnt malts with a hint of chocolate. Taste followed the nose really good. Had to have 2 of these on the tour, a good Rye Stout.

Bomber. I was hesitant to pick this one up, usually rye is a red flag for me. But boy am I glad I did. Huge chocolate note. Unsweetened baker cocoa. Coffee roast. There is a touch of rye in there but it’s really in the background. More flavor and thickness than you expect from a 7%er.
