Imagine a comic book. The kind with superheroes and punching and stuff. Now imagine that most of those superheroes are kind of total jerks. Add in a lot of profanity. No, more profanity than that. Ok, now throw in felonious owls, spectral bovines, gorilla arms, lots of bears, unplanned pregnancy, and 19th century boxer John L. Sullivan. And then a little more profanity. And be sure to include almost nothing about theology or space exploration.

Now imagine—and this is key—being able to drink all that. And then imagine it’s called Beer Hates Astronauts, because that’s what we’re calling it. And we’re calling it that because it’s the beer version of God Hates Astronauts, which is the actual comic I completely failed to properly evoke above.

This is just the latest step in creator Ryan Browne’s attempt to dominate the world by means of one of the most unsummarizable comics in existence. Having recently Kickstarted the deluxe hardcover edition of God Hates Astronauts with massive success, he has joined forces with Half Acre for a groundbreaking venture in distributing comics in hoppy liquid form.

7% ABV India Pale Ale brewed with Vienna malt and Citra hops.

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2016 Draft at Khyber Pass. Cloudy orange pour with a spread of fluffy white foam. Thick lace. Sweet fuzzy tropical fruit. Apricots. Papaya. Tangerines. Orange passionfruit. Mangos. Bananas. Smooth milky mouthfeel. Not particularly hoppy at all. Tastes like Tang, but in a good way.

Bottle thanks to Nathan. Pours a clear gold with medium white head that lasts. The aroma is tropical fruit, mango and tangerine, resin. Medium mouth, dank, pine, mango, grapefruit, juicy, lingering resin finish, very nice.

On tap at Brixies. Pours golden with a white head. Strong citra hop aroma. Pine with a little tropical fruit. The hops are well balanced not overly bitter but flavorful. The 100% vienna malts are a bit too sweet. But they are not as dark or toasted as I had imagined they might turn out to be. Decent.

Tasted from a bomber. It poured a cloudy golden hue with a white head and uneven lacing. Citrus-apricot nose with a fruity hopped taste. This is a dandy of an IPA from Half Acre. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap. Pours golden orangish with a frothy white head. Aroma is of hops, pine, and tropical fruit. Taste is of bitter hops, with lots of tropical fruit. A good amount of mango, and even some apricot. Lingering taste of apricot. Nice hop bite to it as well. Has a bready malt backbone that balances the beer out very well. Mouthfeel is soapy, almost oily. Body is heavily carbonated and sticky. Goes down way too easy.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2016 On tap, poured into a snifter. The aroma is sweet grapefruit and gumball like notes, with a light, but noticeable herb / dank spice. It pours brilliant and clear amber orange with white soft soap head that retains well, leaves a wispy surface and a moderate lace. The taste is a balanced medium high bittersweet. The texture is oily with a soft, fizzy carbonation and a medium full body flavored with citrus, grains, and herbs. It?s finish is crisp with a citrus swell and a waxy and bready touch. It?s also a bit soapy and grassy in feel and leads to an aftertaste that?s lightly bitter and waxy with a flavor of toasted bread.

Orange and tropical and citrus perfection. Poured from 22oz bottle on the dock at the lake. My wheelhouse IPA. Orange vanilla and grapefruit. Fantastic.
