Imagine a comic book. The kind with superheroes and punching and stuff. Now imagine that most of those superheroes are kind of total jerks. Add in a lot of profanity. No, more profanity than that. Ok, now throw in felonious owls, spectral bovines, gorilla arms, lots of bears, unplanned pregnancy, and 19th century boxer John L. Sullivan. And then a little more profanity. And be sure to include almost nothing about theology or space exploration.

Now imagineóand this is keyóbeing able to drink all that. And then imagine itís called Beer Hates Astronauts, because thatís what weíre calling it. And weíre calling it that because itís the beer version of God Hates Astronauts, which is the actual comic I completely failed to properly evoke above.

This is just the latest step in creator Ryan Browneís attempt to dominate the world by means of one of the most unsummarizable comics in existence. Having recently Kickstarted the deluxe hardcover edition of God Hates Astronauts with massive success, he has joined forces with Half Acre for a groundbreaking venture in distributing comics in hoppy liquid form.

7% ABV India Pale Ale brewed with Vienna malt and Citra hops.

Can. Pours hazy orangey yellow, almost no head. Aroma is beautiful dank Citra: pine, melon, mango, lychee, honey, candied orange, herbs. Taste is sweet orange and mango, lychee juice, moderate but muted bitterness. Booze is well hidden. Delicious.

Bottle... Cloudy golden pour with a small white head. The aroma is both musky and loaded with peach and apricot. Full-bodied with tingly carbonation. The flavor presents bright, fruity, bitter hops. Lengthy bittersweet finish. Bottle courtesy of landhoney!

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2014 Can: Thanks, Jason. Nearly opaque, peachy-yellow color with a foamy & soapy, bone-white head thatís quick to settle into a nice little collar. Aroma of dripping wet pine needles, pineapple, oranges, mild white pepper, grapefruit flesh & citrus rind; very, very juicy. Citra hops going to work on the nostrils. Taste starts with a nice strata of cracker malt & flaky biscuits, but it pales in comparison to the elephantine hop bill. Lots of grapefruit rind & grapefruit flesh, orange peel, some peachy notes with a sprinkle of pine sap & moderately dank resins over the top. Getting both the semi-sweet & substantially bitter side of things here, & it works very nicely. Touch of green onion, grass, & a finish of grapefruit pith covered in lightly dank hop oil. Nice amount of sustaining bitterness. This is a great IPA & I am now officially in love with Half Acre.

Can thanks to Jason for saving me one. Pours a cloudy golden-orange with a small head that never completely fades away. Awesome aroma of grapefruit, tropical fruit, and mandarin oranges. Taste super juicy but not too sweet. Just like the aroma you get grapefruit and tropical fruit big time. Some light pine as well. Smooth and oily mouthfeel. Delicious beer. Itís frustrating that I keep getting great canned IPAís in trades but thereís only like 1 or 2 good ones that I can get in Michigan.

OK, so, I loved this. This is my dream beer, I would drink it every day if I could, in quantity, so yeah, perfect 5. Hereís what I can tell you about it, from the 2014 canned version, poured into a wide-mouthed glass. This batch is much better than the last batch (last year, I think): Smells of strong citrus, pine and an aroma I can only describe as "sweet", like smelling a sour fruit candy -- it smells sweet but you know itís both sweet and sour. It pours a radiant golden orange. Very hazy, intimidating, and inviting, if youíre into cloudy beers and such. I am... The taste/palate must be spoken of together. Thereís enough carbonation to hit the right fizzy expectations, which lifts the intense but balanced strong citrus and light bready tastes, with a punch of alcohol you feel rather than taste. An amazing melding of hops, malt and alcohol. I canít tell where the tastes begin and end, from the zigzag different citrus flavors to the malt sweetness and a savory flavor I canít describe. I can taste the beer an hour later, and thatís a good thing. Itís like Zombie Dust, but made with love and not hate, and more alcohol. Perfect. I hope it becomes a regular offering when the new expansion (BEHIND MY HOUSE!!!!) is fully operational. I heard itís a 100% Citra hop beer, so I doubt it will be available all year, but maybe more often? And yes, thereís a Star Wars reference here.

Bottle: The aroma consists of big tropical fruits, pineapple, citrus, lemon, and a touch of grapefruit. It pours a hazy dull golden-orange with a small white head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. The flavor starts with moderate-heavy tropical fruits, pineapple, and citrus. The finish has moderate grapefruit and a touch of lemon. Itís light-medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, this is outstanding an insanely drinkable.

Sampled at the tap room. Rating from notes. Pours a nice hazed golden orange with a thick white head on top. Lots of citrus, mostly orange and tangerine, upfront in the aroma, with tropical fruit as well as bready notes rounding out the nose. Flavor is flavorful, yet bitter, with a bright citrus and mango tropical fruit bittersweet balanced combined with pine hop bitterness. Some breadiness, but the juicy fruits in the beer tend to win out. Bold body, with a somewhat thick texture. Average carbonation sending me to a lingering bitter finish. Enjoyable.

Bottle courtesy of GatorGuy92. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is malty with huge tropical fruit, grapefruit, and some light caramel. Flavor is similar with tropical fruit, grapefruit, and some light caramel. Tea, huge citrus, and huge tropical fruit hits. Outstanding Citra IPA.
