Another chance to catch on Half Acre while dropped in to Maria’s Community Bar. On draft, and on Monday’s it’s $5! Deal me in! Solid black of course, but with a thin, tan head. Smell starts with coffee and black licorice, which can be a little out of my comfort zone. Taste, though, is silky and oily at the same time. A lower bubble level helps bring in the impression of Kahlua with vanilla, as the anise on the nose is not found on the tongue. Still potent, but oddly not as forceful with the alcohol as the Chairman I just has was. Despite the potential for harsh roastiness, this beer is very very mellow. May not have all the bells and whistles as a Dark Lord, and you may still only be get bottles one day a year, but by George, you can find some on tap afterwards/

Big Hugs Day 2014 -- Had Normal and on Nitro. The standard Big Hugs in, in fact, intense and in your face. An opaque black, with tan lacing peaking through the beer. Strong roast malt and roast coffee aroma. Flavor follows suit, strong roast stout flavor that is almost enveloped in deep rich coffee flavors. These combine to completely mask the alcohol. The nitro smooths the "in your face" of the normal a little bit. Creamier and still very enjoyable to drink.

Poured from a large format bottle. Big rich chocolate, coffee. I was surprised that there was no green pepper flavors. Notes of roasted malts and dark chocolate. Nice beer.

I brought this one to our Stout Day party. I believe this one was a 2010 bottle. I don’t even like cats and this label is awesome.

A - Pours ink black with a nice one finger tall off white head leaving spotty streaks of lace down the glass.

S - Smells of dark roasted malt, coffee grounds, dark chocolate, and some light smoke.

T - Starts off with lots of rich coffee quickly giving way to hints of chocolate, light smoke, and dark roast. There is a bit of dark fruits hidden in the shadows of this one. The finish has quite a bit of dark roast to it, lingering on the pallet for quite awhile.

M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Smooth, roasty, feel with very little booze for such a high ABV.

O - I enjoyed this one. It had plenty of flavor and the smooth feel really made it easy to drink. Thanks to whoever gave me this as an extra.

Tap @ Half Acre: 2012 edition. Black as hell, slowly settling mocha foam on top - looks nice. Aroma of sweet coffee beans with a light, underlying roasty element. Hints of bitter cacao & a little burnt, caramelized sugar at the bottom. Taste full of sweet & creamy, almost milky coffee with a roasted bean aspect & an inherent sweetness. Possibly lactose. A small kiss of dark fruit in the finish; ends kind of bittersweet, with roast & sugar, a nice compliment. Milk chocolate mouth coat. Delicious!

Bottle shared by HopasaurusRex, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a solid black with a creamy tan head that dissipates rather quickly. Huge coffee aromas as well as some chocolate roast and light brown sugar. Light earthy aromas and a very faint dark dried fruitiness round out the aroma quite well. The flavor is rich dark chocolate maltiness with a bunch of creamed coffee poured over it. Light fruit and earth round out the flavor quite nicely. Medium body with a light to moderate level of carbonation. Really nice coffee brew, I’m glad I got to try this.
