Cask pour at Fountainhead (Chicago, IL). Exciting new rate from Half Acre. Pours a rich lively straw yellow hue, healthy pretty glowing hue throughout, gentle touches of suspended sediment, rich eggshell white foamy head stays as a firm layer, laces ok. Aromas are touches of pomegranate and prickly pear, which always reminds me of watermelon. Gentle bready malts, straw, and crisp dry earthy and floral hops. Gentle kisses of citrus, mellow almost gin-like elements and lime, tonic, touches of mellow cool spice, faint bretty funk. Initial is lighter bodied offering touches of mellow sweetness up front, some gentle bready malts, melon fruit, cactus pear, and mellow touches of gin botanicals. Middle is a touch sweet, cool, and quickly moving into a more dry hoppy and faint bretty dry finish. Almost a tonic-y element to it, with some firm dryness into the finish. The sweeter elements are up front, fruit and mellow, allowing some good looks at the hoppy mellow yet thinner base. The fruit doesn’t show up as much in the flavor. A bit young perhaps. An interesting experiment that could perhaps use some fine tuning.. And some more aging on the fruit and wild yeast. Nose is a bit more enjoyable than the beer. Interesting, palatable. Really, the gin and tonic element stands out for me.. Which I find odd but interesting.
