Bomber to snifter (thanks Beerpig317). Looks good; black with beige lacing. Smells solid; dark malt and chocolate with some roast too. Tastes like it smells with More roast and an an average mouthfeel. Not bad.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber from the brewery. Pours a dark and opaque stouty brown-black, thin espresso colored head that dissipated quickly. Nose is chocolate, caramel, hint of butterscotchy diacetyl, and dark roast. Mouth is smooth, but a bit watery -- particularly for a stout. Surprisingly dry (where’s that lactose they’re advertising) and most of the chocolate flavor s overwhelmed by the roasty notes. More like a Chocolate Economy Car. Not bad, but not mnd-blowing.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Taster at the Half Acre taproom. Tan beer with a thin ring of foam. Deep choclate smell, kind of carried away by the roasty malt. More roasty stout in the taste. Pretty dry, and seems lighter in alcohol than even the claimed amount.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
5 ounce sampler at the Half Acre tap room. Aroma was coffee and cola, appearance was dark brown and thinly foamed on top, taste was more predominantly coffee than chocolate, palate was fairly light and fizzy. The chocolate flavors are a dark, semisweet variety. Overall, it’s A-ok, drinkable, accessible for the masses. I had expected a heavier body, thicker, creamier, more chocolate.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Devil’s Den in Philadelphia, PA.
Pours a dark chocolate brown color with a one finger beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Sporadic spots of lace left behind.
Complex malt aroma with a nice balance of sweet and roasted notes. Hints of sweet and dark chocolate, oatmeal, coffee bean and toffee along with lactic sugar/cream. Smells like a chocolate milk shake.
Slightly chewy medium body with a nice balance of sweet and roasted chocolate malt along with earthy, bitter hops and lactic sugar. Really chocolate-y with hints of caramel, toffee and nut. Some roasted dark malt notes and hops contribute bitterness. Hits of oatmeal, coffee and toast but the silky chocolate and lactic sugar notes dominate making this beer silky smooth and easy to drink.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Hot Chocolate in Wicker Park: poured blackish brown with a pleasant ring of light brown head. Nose is milk chocolate, espresso, milk thistle, roasted malts. On the palate, light to medium bodied, subtle chocolate, more roasted malt profile than hops. Dry with more going on in the nose than once on the tongue. Solid session beer.

6ish pour at Revolution Brewery grand opening. Black with a tan foamy head, quickly fading to leave some lace on the plastic cup. Smells of sweet chocolate, roasted characters and espresso. Medium bodied with a residual sweetness and a noble hop bitterness. Smells better than it tastes.

Nice espresso head with great lacing on top of a dark murky pour. Aroma of nutty chocolate. Creamy mouth. Taste is full of nut and chocolate. Slight bitter finish mellows the sweetness. Nicely balanced.

Pours deep black with notes of cocoa and roasted grain. The roast deepens with sweet notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Nice deep long finish.
