6ish pour at Revolution Brewery grand opening. Black with a tan foamy head, quickly fading to leave some lace on the plastic cup. Smells of sweet chocolate, roasted characters and espresso. Medium bodied with a residual sweetness and a noble hop bitterness. Smells better than it tastes.

Black with fair, creamy, tan head (but tasting from a growler) / Big, earthy nose of cigar box and coffee / Medium body, a touch watery, chewy, with good balance and finish / Flavors of tobacco and dark roast coffee, with unsweetened chocolate notes / Potentially very good, just needs to correct the body problems.

Enjoyed on tap at Goose Island Stout Fest 2012 in Chicago, IL. This was one of the more enjoyable stouts that I had throughout the day. App is pitch black, moderate to thick consistency, rich tan head. Aroma of chocolate, bit of lactose, cocoa, decent amount going on with the sweetness but it didn’t smell too much like a candy bar. Taste is very good, bit of peanuts, like Nutella, rich like a peanut butter consistency, very good stuff.

Pours deep black with notes of cocoa and roasted grain. The roast deepens with sweet notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Nice deep long finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Growler from the brewery courtesy of dwm1034. Thanks! Pours a jet black with a thin tan head. Aroma is nothing but chocolate. Medium to heavy on the palate with medium carbonation. Flavor is bitter chocolate and roasted malt. One of the better sweet stouts I’ve had. I hope they bottle this and make it a regular.

Nice espresso head with great lacing on top of a dark murky pour. Aroma of nutty chocolate. Creamy mouth. Taste is full of nut and chocolate. Slight bitter finish mellows the sweetness. Nicely balanced.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber from the brewery. Pours a dark and opaque stouty brown-black, thin espresso colored head that dissipated quickly. Nose is chocolate, caramel, hint of butterscotchy diacetyl, and dark roast. Mouth is smooth, but a bit watery -- particularly for a stout. Surprisingly dry (where’s that lactose they’re advertising) and most of the chocolate flavor s overwhelmed by the roasty notes. More like a Chocolate Economy Car. Not bad, but not mnd-blowing.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber pours an opaque black with medium tan head that never completely disappears, but which leaves faint lacing. Aroma is full of chocolate, coffee, cream, and bready malts. Body is medium to full, befitting a stout, with minimal carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. Taste is sweet, but not as sweet as I had feared it might be, with a touch of hoppy bitterness in the middle. There’s nothing over the top here, just a very good chocolate stout and another reason I’ll check out what Half Acre might come up with next.
