3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
5 ounce sampler at the Half Acre tap room. Aroma was coffee and cola, appearance was dark brown and thinly foamed on top, taste was more predominantly coffee than chocolate, palate was fairly light and fizzy. The chocolate flavors are a dark, semisweet variety. Overall, it’s A-ok, drinkable, accessible for the masses. I had expected a heavier body, thicker, creamier, more chocolate.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Hot Chocolate in Wicker Park: poured blackish brown with a pleasant ring of light brown head. Nose is milk chocolate, espresso, milk thistle, roasted malts. On the palate, light to medium bodied, subtle chocolate, more roasted malt profile than hops. Dry with more going on in the nose than once on the tongue. Solid session beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Shared growler with Sherm1016....my pleasure!! As noted, pours black with thin head..will do more if you are in a hurry (as we kind of were). Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate....a little bitter but that mellows out as you let it warm....it is better as it warms a bit...but that let’s you savor it as well....loved it. Do hope that Half Acre bottles this one so we can enjoy it more often.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber from the brewery. Pours a dark and opaque stouty brown-black, thin espresso colored head that dissipated quickly. Nose is chocolate, caramel, hint of butterscotchy diacetyl, and dark roast. Mouth is smooth, but a bit watery -- particularly for a stout. Surprisingly dry (where’s that lactose they’re advertising) and most of the chocolate flavor s overwhelmed by the roasty notes. More like a Chocolate Economy Car. Not bad, but not mnd-blowing.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
poured from growler into a half acre tulip. Pours a nice dark chocolate color with a nice roasty head
very well balanced and aromatic with notes of dark chocolate, cacao nibs, roasted coffee beans and malts.
Full bodied with a real nice and smooth feel. Very drinkable with flavors of coffee beans, roasted malts and dark chocolate
Though it slightly lacks in the middle, this is a great stout at 5%. Brings real good depth and flavor while being at a lower abv.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma:Roasted malts with some of the sour dark roasted malts smell. There’s a little bit of caramel and coffee.
Appearance:Black with espresso colored head.
Taste:Dark malts on the foretaste. Chocolate, caramel, and vanilla flavors come through more on the midtaste. The aftertaste has the slightly sour dark roasted malt flavors.
Palate:Medium body, not particularly heavy. Ok carbonation.
Overall:This is an easy drinking chocolate stout, pleasant and sessionable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours dark almost black with a thin tan head.
Smell of roasted cocoa.
Definitely not a sweet brew but flavorful. Finished more than a bit smoky-like a lot!
Was expecting this to be thin but grateful it was medium body.
Overall this was done well.

4.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
A beautiful beer, not extreme in any way, just beautifully crafted. Subtle aroma of roast malt and coffee, beautiful pitch black with a thick tan head out of the growler. Mellow tasting, like a perfect pot roast is mellow, with a hint of chocolate, very creamy but not viscous palate, slightly bitter, just a touch sweet. A total home run from the local boys. About to finsih the whole growler by myself in about three hours, have only ever finsihed a growler by myself once before (Half Acre Big Hugs, yum). So good. These guys can do porters and stouts like no one else in the region right now. They seem to shoot for great taste and balance instead of extremeness and gimmickrey. Though if they ever barrel-aged this stuff, all hell would break loose.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Fresh from the growler on its release date, this dark, thick stout was meant for happy drinking on a Chicago winter day. Great aroma with milk coffee and chocolate, full bodied and a little flat makes for easy drinking. Deep dark notes of chocolate and dark malts with no hops to speak of. A favorite of mine!
