On tap at the brewpub. Nice smooth porter. Chocolate and coffee flavors that were well balanced and the beer was not too heavy. I could have had three or four.

5 ouncer at the brewery’s tap room. It’s a solid, traditional porter. Not very heavy bodied, nor filling, yet it carries assertive, chocolate and coffee flavors. Mild roasted-smoke aroma (the smell was one of my favorite aspects here) and dark brown appearance. I would happily buy a pint of this the next time I’m at the brewery, especially during the winter. It’s a great cold weather beverage, highly drinkable (mild abv taste), and stacks up nicely against other mainline, quality porters...along the likes of Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald.

On tap at HA taproom. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aromas of some roasted malts and some chocolate. Flavors of creamy roasted malts, chocolate, and a touch of toffee. Mouthfeel is a little thin. Decent porter.

Enjoyed on tap at Piece, served in an imperial pint glass. A: Pours a solid black body with browned edges. A thin khaki head forms on the pour and leaves some nice splotchy and sticky lace on the way down. S: Pretty straightforward. Some coffee notes with a roasted malt body and a little chocolate. T: Coffee upfront with a nice roasted malt body and some slight oatmeal like flavors as well. Obviously some chocolate in there as well with an every so subtle hoppy finish. M: Medium bodied, slightly thin, but this just increases the drinkability. Right amout of carbonation with a slighty drying finish that keeps you coming back for more. O: Overall a very good and highly drinkable porter for the winter months. Not complex by any means, but simplicity is key for this one. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 12-27-2011

On tap at Pinocchio’s. Maybe I liked this a little more than the numbers indicate, but it was just pretty unremarkable. Dark pour, smallish head, no lacing. Aroma of milk and roast. Flavor was lots of roast and a touch of lactic acid, moderate sweetness. Way over carbonated, though. Not smooth. Warming didn’t help. Just okay.

Pours black with a medium tan head. Nice cocoa vanilla aroma with good roastiness and a hint of maple. Flavor follows suit...not complex but very flavorful. Mouthfeel is medium and lively and the finish is roasty with linering light coffee.

Enjoyed on tap at Goose Island Stout Fest 2012 in Chicago, IL. Last beer of the day that I rated! Appearance is a dark dark brown, very rich off white head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, what else would there be at Stout Fest? Taste is good, chocolate, cocoa, not much bitterness, decent. Good beer to end the day with.

On tap at small bar. Pours a clear deep brown with a tan head that dissipates slightly. Aroma has notes of light chocolate and dark grains with a bit of backing earthiness. Flavor has dark malts with a creamy note and a bit of light chocolate.

Draft at Jerry’s. Clear, dark, mahogany with big, foamy, tan head / Mild nose of coffee, roast barley, and root beer / Medium body, smooth with gentle carbonation, with good balance and dry finish / Flavors of roast coffee, bittersweet chocolate, root beer, and grass / A good, solid, porter.

This one is really undercarbonated for me. And I think Half Acre always for me fails on the mouthfeel. The flavors are dark and roasty, nothing special.
