4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 dumontn (529) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - MAY 11, 2011
Picked up a 22oz bottle right from the source... friendly brewtender allowed me several small draft samples that were as delicious as they were thirst quenching as I had worked up a sweat ridding my bike to the brewery! Pours a sexy red mahogany with tight, imperial style head bubbles. Aroma is highly pungent and offers delightful whiffs of dank, resinous grapefruit and burnt caramel. Taste is aggressively bitter with notes of pine needle, toffee, and grain. Very creamy body with average carbonation and a very dry and bitter finish. The freshness of this bottle is really noticeable--this is a beer best consumed immediately.

Quite a nice beer. Grassy/citrus hops and a nice malty flavor. Didn’t detect much roasted malt flavor that is in some red ales. Big flavor but easy drinking. Serving: bottle

poured from bottle into a pint glass. Pours a orange/amber color with a small head.
Rich and aromatic with aromas of malts, toffee, blood oranges, and some hops.
medium/full bodied with a real nice smooth feel and good flavors of blood oranges, malts, and some toffee.
More hoppy on the aromas than the feel. One of my favorites from half-acre and always a welcome time when they release it.

Really nice beer. . .
Aroma is fairly understated, a little bit more skunkiness than you’d expect from a red.
Appearance is lovely-- medium head and a dark orange that is just slightly clouded. Really nice looking.
Taste is big, and goes in 3 main directions-- the "red" malty base which has a nice twang to it here, the sharp, bitter hops that balance that out, and then just the slightest gingeriness. I don’t think there’s actual ginger in there, but I swear I taste it a little.
Note my bottle sez 6.5% abv, not 7% as above. . . however, I would bet it’s closer to 7.
Really nice beer-- probably my new favorite from Half Acre (although it’s really hard to say much bad about Daisy Cutter)

Wow, really good. Was a bit skeptical at first due to the appearance and aroma, but the flavor and body were rockin’ good. Poured with a decent off white head and some lace. color is medium amber. Aroma is very hoppy, and malty a hint of butterscotch and grapefruit. Thankfully, the graper fruit and butterscotch are gone in the flavor. Flavor is superb. Earthy chewy and emminently drinkable. Great body and carbonation. Ditto finish which is just so that I want another pull offa the botil. Seshun fo sho.

From a bomber. Pour is hazy amber with a nice white head. Nice sweet caramel aroma with pine and citrus hops also present. Flavor is a nice balance between malt, citrus, and hop bitterness with subtle spiciness present, too. Quite a nice ipa.

Bottle: pours cloudy burnt orange, rusty. Sand wispy head. Nice looking beer. Nose is strong, earthy malt, pine resin, dark, dank hops. Smooth on the palate, with the red characteristics of malts and then a real nice hop bitterness powering through on the finish. Complex and balanced. Real nice.

Pours hazy amber with light hop notes that blend into a generous malt backbone while keeping bitter grapefruit throughout the finish.

Thanks to Moggman for sharing a bottle. The beer is a hazy amber color with a medium ivory white head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus and malt. Medium body and moderately bitter with flavors of citrusy hops, caramel malt and a slight floral note. The finish is hoppy with citrus left behind. Pretty good overall, and glad to get to try something from this brewery.
