3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask pour at the Half Acre Tap Room (Chicago, IL). Pours a mellow hazed golden yellow hue, summer sunny sky, with a frothy whitish head atop that dies to a film, laces small. Aromas offer grainy cereal malts, bread, dough. Gentle touch of citrus, spice, and herbal floral feel, a bit cool. Lemon zest, earth, and gentle herbal qualities hit the nose. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a bit lighter, the cask lightens the load of sweeter grainy malts and alcohol heat I remember from the base. Touches of citrus, lemon, decent bitterness hit the palate. Some earth, florals, and herbal coolness. Middle is a bit more sweet, doughy and cereal, straw and gentle bitterness return into the backend showing lemon, grass, florals, spice, and a mellow herbal quality. Dry spicy finish rounds it out. Overall, it’s not a beer I personally would by much of, but the treatment shows some mellow kicks of life. Ok.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a lightly hazed god with a nice white head. Nose shows a raw graininess and a fresh herbal quality. Light tea and citrus with a hint of bread. Clean overall, faint cardamom. On tasting, moderate bitterness and minimal sweetness overall. Crash and refreshing. I think the cask helps this a lot. Easily drinkable. The thyme notes get a bit lost overall, but the citrus is nice. More coriander and cardamom on the dry finish. Decent.
