Heyoka is a western charged firecracker. We conjured the classics in Chinook and Amarillo then laid them on a bed of pale malt. This India Pale Ale shoots straight to the bitter edge before falling into a mellow haze. Deep gold, 7% ABV and ready to travel into the distance. The Heyoka resides in the opposite and is said to use the wind as sticks to beat the drum of thunder.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2014 16oz can from Puerto Rico Food & Liquors in Wicker Park. Pours a yellowish orange with a white head. Aroma has big bitter hops - grapefruit, pine, lemons - in a typical Half Acre fashion. Taste is nice amarillo hops; juicy fruits mixed with grapefruit. Also some pine and some resin. Little malt presence. Iíve heard " ... and typical Half Acre yeast .... " which makes some sense in the flavor profile that seems to come out of the Half Acre hoppy stuff. It is still tasty and good, just interestingly fairly similar. Light to medium bodied and sticky. FInishes more bitter than sweet, but still fruity. Very solid and tasty IPA, from a solid brewery that is far above average in hoppy stuff. 14.8

I always kind of thought an iPA was noticeably ascent from Half Acreís regular canned offering given that they do such a wonderful job on hoppy beers typically. Well, now they have one and it is a great beer as expected. Itís a perfectly clear pour w/ a bright orange color and just a thin and fine-bubbled head. Itís nose is a classic American mix of citrus, pine and herbal (as in the medicinal kind legal only in some states) hops. There is a touch of honey-like sweetness but firm bitterness keeps it firmly in check w/o keeping it from highlighting some mandarin notes. It finishes w/ a lingering resinous bitterness on the tongue. Like a lot of Half Acre beers, this tastes a bit young to me and there is still a bit of a green leafy hop taste to it. In my experience, this will fade after a couple weeks in the fridge but, certainly this is good enough to drink straight away. This is definitely going to be in my regular rotation of local IPAs.

16 oz can. Lots of hops. Strong citrus, orange. Some grass and pine. Has a slight wheat like malt at the end, but there is a bit of that in all the half acre beers, just seems to stand out in this more than others. This is quite good slots nicely between daisy and double daisy. And Iím happy this is actual distribution in 4 packs.

On tap, poured into a shaker. Grassy and herbal notes come through primarily on the nose with some caramel and bread crust. Thereís also a slight cheese / lactose note in there. It pours a clear honey gold with a soft, creamy, foamy white head. A puffy, sparkling and sticky sheet lace is left behind and it retains a medium thick, soft ring with a dusty-thin surface layer. The oily textured, medium body beer has a soft, light, zippy carbonation. A citrus, toast, grass, and spice combination finishes this one. Itís nice, clean, and dry with a spicy and herby, bitter grapefruit peel, and toast in the aftertaste. Very easy drinking.

Sample at the brewery. Heyoka is a resinous dank old cheese hop bomb. Light copper gold with a solid medium body. Not my cup of tea but well done for all that.

Complex hop punch filled with bitterness and fruitiness. This is my kind of IPA! I got this in a growler from half acre. Brilliant beer. Nothing subtle in this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. Pours bright orange with fluffy white cap like head. Heavy tropical fruit like orange, passionfruit and mango on the nose with some slight grassy notes too. Taste leads with the passionfruit and finishes with light bitterness and slightly sweet. Solid ipa.

Can from Mikkeller webshop. Pours hazy bright orange with a thick white head. Nose is full of tropical fruits and mild herbs - pineapple, passionfruit, mango, nectarine. Taste is very passionfruit and melon forward with mild honey and a biscuity base. Not a stand out but decent

Pint can poured into a tulip glass. Nice floral scent of an IPA. Real hoppy taste, overall good IPA.
