22 oz. bomber via trade with thetomG- thanks again, Tom! Pours a cloudy brown-ruby-amber color with a finger-thick beige head with nice retention and lace. Aroma isn’t very strong, but has nice notes of roasted chocolate and German malts, nuts, caramel, and toast. Flavor improves upon it, with notes of roasted chocolate malts, toast, wet tea leaves, tobacco, fruit, and some earthy notes. Light-medium bodied, with crisp carbonation and a leafy mouthfeel. Finishes dry and roasty. Tried right after the Sprecher Black Bavarian, this is another really nice Midwestern schwarzbier, a style I hadn’t thought much of before.

Dark brown pour with little head. Aroma of chocolate, light roasted malt. Flavor is chocolaty and bitter, a bit of coffee. Mouthfeel is a bit watery, but the flavor more than makes up for it. Nice carbonation. Good to see chicago breweries being awesome.

Bomber. Pours deep brown with some amber highlights around the edge with a small off white fluffy head. Aroma is toasted malts, a bit of cocoa, a hint of smokiness, a bit doughy with just a tiny bit of dark fruits. Flavor is sweet, lightly nutty, roasted and slightly burnt malts, chocolate and some coffee. Lightly bitter and dry finish. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. Alright beer, nothing standing out

22 oz bottle from a friend. Been trying to track this down for awhile. Pours a nice blackish brown, lighter edges but largely opaque body. A light brown moderate head sits atop and dies down to a decent film, decent lacing overall over time. Aromas are roasty malts, barley, light cocoa and coffee grounds moving into a touch of creamy sweetness, caramel and toffee. Initial is similar, a sturdy body for a Schwartz, roasty malts with coffee, cocoa, sweetness and a creaminess in body move into caramel, toffee, chocolate, and coffee. Nice balance of flavors with a decent hopping in the finish to compliment the roast and sweetness. A solid Schwartz that gives a decent abv on top.. But it doesn’t get obnoxious.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish/brown almost black color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty grainy bready chocolate aroma. Slightly roasted malty bready chocolate flavor with some hints of caramel. Has a roasted malty bready caramel finish with hints of chocolate in the aftertaste.

22oz bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. Lively dark brown pour, like a root beer or something given how sprightly the carbonation was. Nose was nutty and vaguely chocolatey, more like a semi-roasty porter than the sharp notes I expect from a schwarz. Pleasant and somewhat slick mouthfeel tends to enhance the chocolately smoothness that seems to emerge in terms of flavor. Slight smokey and chalky dryness in the finish. Enjoyable beer, but didn’t really hit the mark qua schwarz for me.

22oz bottle from west lakeview (old rating).... seen this on tap around town but picked up a bottle instead... pours a dark cola brown with a slowly forming thin ring of a frothy white head... aroma of german grains and malt, cola, in addition to flavors of sweet caramel, grain, light cocoa as well as some subtle roast on the backend. mildy sweet through the middle and finish with a prick of bitterness at the very end. carbonation falls in the middle of the road and the body is somewhat on the lighter side. pretty drinkable nonetheless. looking forward to more from these guys.
