COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brought to life using a lager yeast strain, this beer is a sensory pounder. Ignoring the idea of a traditional lager balance, Guest Lager hops the line and intentionally scales the flavors tied to the ale spectrum. This 8% ABV style bender wrangles an impressive canon of flavor into one place. Did we mention hops? This particular lager hosts enough Nelson Sauvin & Falconer’s Flight to soothe any weary traveler.

Taster at the tap room. Jeez, about all I wrote down on this was "heavy catbox smell." I recall then explaining to my companions that I mean that as a good thing, but usually associate it with Amarillos. Clearly some of the newer hop varieties here can dig in that impression just as well, too. Should probably have had a full glass, but this was a pub/brewpub crawl, and I was pacing myself admirably.

Can. Hazy golden yellow with a medium sized creamy white head. Good retention and lace. Grapefruit, citrus, light biscuit, light sweet tropical fruit. Medium sweet with a pleasant level of bitterness. I wouldn’t say easy drinkable, you can feel that it has some balls, but I think it’s quite elegant and pleasant. Not rough but robust.

Can from Mikkeller webshop. Pours bright orange with a thick white cap on top. Nose is loaded with tropical fruits - massive orange and passionfruit over the top of familiar lager yeast. Taste is true to a well rounded lager and then the hops hit you - massive passionfruit, pineapple and orange. Very juicy and drinks a treat. So good

Draught at the brewery, 4/17/14
Chill-hazed deep golden/copper body is topped by plentiful white head showing strong retention.
Hugely hoppy nose is full of strong peachy-lemon fruitiness and a fair amount of acidity. Pine emerges quickly and alongside the grapefruit and heavy leaf-like astringency, it quickly becomes clear this is going to be very aggressive. Bready malts produce a sourdough-like note in conjunction with all of this hop resin, while there is a touch of alcohol warmth on the finish and a bit of fusel character.
Unbelievably acidic in the mouth. Hop resin, lemon concentrate, pine sap, etc....Very well-attenuated, too much so, as there’s not nearly enough malt to balance. It’s not even the extreme amount of hops used, rather just the poorly executed boiling schedule for them. Way too much bitterness and borderline sour/aspirin-like. Damn. Ok, you know how to boil a shit ton of hops and make an unbalanced beer. Good work.

From brewery. Strong aroma of fresh hops. Herbal, floral, citrus, you could really smell the resin. The lager base was decent. Hop heads will love it. I reckon the hops maybe were a bit out of place at certain points in the sip. Serving: Can

On tap, poured into a 5oz English tulip sampler glass. There’s prevalent aroma is citrus - a combination of sweet tangerines and bitter, resin grapefruit. The secondary aromas are floral, and spruce with a touch of a spice (coriander?). The beer pours a clear, and somewhat effervescent yellow orange with a white head that recedes to a ring with a filmy island and leaves behind a decent lace. The taste is a well balanced medium sweet and bitter (maybe pushing the high side of medium on both counts). The medium body has an oily texture and an average level of soft carbonation. The finish is mostly grapefruit bitter which is a bit cloying, but doesn’t linger too long.
