Pours very dark. Some caramel and maltiness. A bit roasty also. Moderate hop bitterness. A fairly dry finish. Nice.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Always been an interesting beer. I think it has many layers of flavors...maybe nuts maybe light smoke... It's a change up from their aggressive hop beers , which are amazing, this turns that down but still has a slight presence in the taste... Slight... Thanks half acre...

Draft at brewery. The pour is a nice deep brown with a thick head. The aroma is mostly nutty. The taste smooth, but not overly flavorful.

On tap. Pour is dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, and bread. Flavor is more hoppy than expected, but much like the aroma. Dry finish, medium to high carbonation levels. Tastes like an APA mixed with a Brown Ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
16 oz can, thanks Ryan. Cola garnet-black, nitro-style frothy tan head without the nitro; big lacing. Aroma has black malt character, with chocolate, the slightest hint of roast and coffee, nutty sweetness, light toffee, yeasty tang. Flavor similar, with a light bitterness; finish is predominantly chocolate and bitter roast. Mouthfeel is also not much past cola; soft, full carbonation borders on fizzy. Seems like a nut brown / black ale hybrid to me. Decent enough beer, I guess, but a bit boring.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
7/28/2011: Half Acre Over Ale... Aroma: Dried leaves, bread crust and just enough caramel maltiness to lend some sugar; mild earthy-tea hops Appearance: Jewel-like brown color with churning head of beige-colored bubbles. Flavor: Muted maltiness with a bit of roast/coffee influence; floral, dried tea, dry earthy hops and mild to moderate bitterness; plenty of hops without becoming overly bitter; slightly metallic and dry in the finish. Palate: Medium-bodied; smooth, almost cask-like; really nice mouthfeel and perfect for the style. Overall: Good ESB with some character; I’m liking it!

this is a brown? reminds me of a amber. way to hoppy to be a brown. nuttiness is thin and one dimensional. pretty bland.

Pours a deep copper/amber that’s really very nice. 2 finger head that won’t go away Aroma is all coffee with just a touch of alcohol - odd in a beer so low abv. good creamy mouthfeel. Slight hop flavor up front, but not a ton of deep bitterness. Finishes sweet and just a touch hazelnutty. I don’t really know what style this is supposed to be - maybe an underhopped amber? It’s tasty, but doesn’t really fit anything

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
16 oz. can. Dark mahogany color with small off white head. Aroma is mostly malt (nutty) and yeast. Flavor is roasted grain, light toffee and a light hop bitterness on the back end of the sip. Body is appropriate for the style, soft carbonation, balanced sweet and bitter. The overall impression of the beer is good. However, it just seems a tad boring. I appreciate the classic brewing of the style (nothing is out of place here) perhaps my beer ego has reached a new level. Maybe I have now escalated into a whole new snob category….
