Early Fall has farmers picking whole cone hops and shipping them to us to brew a wet hop beer. We kick up a black beer with a very sticky character. Beware of the StickyFat Bear.

A specialty brew. Grab it when you see it. 7% ABV.

UPDATE: Half Acre differentiates between their vintages based solely on fresh hop quantities. The 2011 has 100% "wet" hops. The 2010 had a different quantity. 2012 has a different amount of hops. Under our guidelines these are still the same beer.

Growler from the brewery provided by Alex. Pours a dark brown, coca cola on the edges, light tan head, good carbonation...Aroma is super hop, can tell it was wet hopped, lots of grass...The taste is really boring, not much going on, light brown sugar, a little hops, but really pretty boring. Light chalk finish that just seals the deal as not being a good one.

On tap at the Half Acre Hop Leaf event. Citrus nutty nose. Malty sweet and dry bitterness. Lots of dry citrus flavors. Finishes dry. At first this didn’t make much of an impression on me, but it grew on me quick. 7/4/8/4/15

On tap at Sheffields in Chicago. Pours a deep amber with a frothy light tan head. Aroma is an excellent blend of rich roasty malt, cocoa and a touch of coffee behind a more aggressive pungent piney hops and resiny notes. Floral and earthy hops as well, not overly citric. Flavor is also nicely blended between chocolatey notes and fresh aggressive hops without a sharp bitter finish, Very smooth and drinkable. Medium body and a soft but fizzy carbonation. Nice black IPA, well balanced to accentuate the hops and dark malt while keeping it smooth and refreshing.

Courtesy of HOPSHUNTER. Growler pours mahogany with infra red edges and half inch mocha head leaving some decent sheet lacing behind. The aroma is dark roasty malts, black licorice, some chocolate and spicy hops. The taste starts with firm dark roasted malts and then pulling up some chocolate, vague hop bitterness, some spicy hops, burnt malts and then a mild level of spicy black licorice.

Draft. Can’t believe I had to scrap at the hopleaf for a sample of this goodness! I should have spent some more time at the brewery last month! O man, what a beautiful aroma, so fresh, lots of wet hops beers just seem like regular strongly hopped beers, but this came through as a wet hop beer, super sticky! Lovely green, bit sprucy hops, nice kick, perfectly balanced roast, and great attenuation. Nice use of wet hops here.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2010 Tasted on draft at Hopleaf. Pours a very dark but clear amber with a thin beige head that leaves spotty lace but a solid collar. The nose is resinous hops with just a hint of dark malts and an earthy aroma that could be from the hops or the yeast, I can’t tell. The flavors are very similar with the fresh hops taking center stage and the malt and yeast flavors as supporting cast. The body is medium minus with lovely carbonation and a long hoppy finish.

Growler courtesy of pantanap. Near black body with a huge, frothy beige head which slowly retreated leaving sheets of drippy lace. Nose is roasted and citric, primary notes of roast, chocolate, grapefruit, and pine with secondary notes of caramel and coffee. Medium body, very smooth, mouth feel is somewhat sticky. Great play between roasted coffee/chocolate elements and bitter hop citric/earthy notes. Very nicely balanced and very easy to drink. Thanks Kan!

Picked up a growler for my fishing trip to Wisconsin. Pours dark brown with thick tan head. Aromas is loaded with pine and citrus hops, some chocolate and dark grains mixed in. Flavors of grapefruit, some pine, chocolate, and dark malts. Finishes bitter, but with it was hoppier like the aroma. Pretty drinkable brew. Wished I would have grabbed a second growler.
