While vacationing from the reservation, we took a trip down the path of questionable endeavors and mixed up “Sunday In Saigon,” what we’re calling a French Vietnamese Saison brewed with Thai Basil & Lemongrass. This ethnic juggernaut is a churner of taste sensation that’s sure to leave you wondering what in the Sam Hill is happening in your mouth. Take a break from the heat and chaos and toss some of this snake juice into a tall one and let it all drain from your mind. After all, Sundays are just for you.

Draft at GTMW. Pours a hazy deep gold with a frothy white head. The nose is pretty cool, lots of herbal spicy stuff going on. The lemongrass is somewhat subdued and the basil speaks loudly here. Nice and peppery with a citrus slant. Very clean overall. On tasting, again, nice and herbal/spicy. Lemongrass is more prominent in the taste here. Peppery and almost creamy on the palate. Lots going on with the basil and yeast character. Really well done overall. I like!

Nice saison hère! Love the thai basil and lemongrass, prevalent without being too much, very well integrated, fantastic mouthfeel, very drinkable, love the color too. Excellent job.

Pour from a growler filled at the brewery (Chicago, IL). Sounds good enough. Pours a rich glowing yellow hue, bright and shiny with a frothy brighter whitish head, a thicker film with good lacing overall. Aromas are straw and doughy malts, bread, lemons and gentle citrus, grass, gentle yeasty spice. Touches of basil, cool sweetness, pear and a kiss of melon. Initial is fresh and vibrant with good flavors of citrus, lemon, gentle fruit and bready malts. Touches of spice, basil, dry earthy hops as we get into the backend, gentle spice, basil is distinct, plays well with the fruity elements as the lemongrass asserts itself as it warms more, dry and spicy with cool sweeter fruits, mellow bready and grainy cereal malts. Gentle yeast. A very unique beer, offering some interesting elements. Lighter overall with bright flavors and the spice elements giving good play into the middle and backend, lingering on. Cool lemongrass starts to take over as it warms, up front and into the back. I think this is solid with some interesting play, summery, but not necessarily my personal jam. I can see it scoring higher for those that like it. Yeast picks up some of that sulfury aroma from Cipher I got earlier on.

Cloudy yellow with a white head. Basil, yeast aroma. Taste is lightly sweet, yeast, lemongrass. Soapy basil finish. Interesting experiment, but the basil is a bit much.

growler fill from half acre... pours a bright wheat-like hazy golden brown hue and topped with a thinnish soapy white head that reduces down to a thinner wispy film... aroma is big on herbal lemongrass notes, quite abundant with almost ginger like tones. bright aforementioned scents and a light grainy backdrop... was concerned about the heaviness of the lemongrass but it subsides in the flavor where more of a banana and yeastiness takes more of a stronghold. a light grassy bitterness peaks on the backend. body remains fairly light, just shy of medium with light to medium carbonation. not bad. i like lemongrass and all but it was quite assertive to begin with.
