COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’re scheduled to release a new beer on 11/11/11 called the Chairman. The Chairman is in celebration of Lumpen Magazine’s 20th anniversary.

We opted to brew an Imperial Red Ale; a mostly balanced, ominous, reigning force easing you into cooperation. In honor of their creativity, three different labels were designed for this beer. Each one takes its own slant towards the spirit of Lumpen and its Boring Theoretical Party. The Chairman will be available at our brewery store and at Maria’s Packaged Goods in Bridgeport. To Lumpen!

Sampled from the bottle at the Mundelin beer fest. Pours a clear red with a light yellowish brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a nice grassy hoppiness with backing caramel, sweet grains and light fruit. Flavor starts with grassy hops and a bit of resin with sweetness coming out in the middle and hints of earthiness in the finish.

Malty English style red , comes across like a vintage ale, yet we know its still within a few months on the shelf. Toasty aroma and taste. Dark reddish colour with an off-white head, lacey. Steve noticed first it was a little oxidized. Hops kick in at the finish. My bottle, from Maria’s and shared with FlandersNed.

Thanks to wimperoo for this. Pours a dark red with a medium frothy off white top. Aroma is rich earthy malts and a subtle aroma of pine hop. Taste is malt forward with earthy, caramel and toffee with a backing of hop bitterness. Great beer.

Bottle… Pours clear and dark amber with a small, mushroom-colored head. Decent retention. The nose furnishes dark fruits, caramel and toffee. Full-bodied and creamy with medium carbonation. The flavor presents mildly singed caramel flanked by resin and grapefruit rind. The lengthy, bittersweet finish leaves a coating of bitterness clinging tightly to the roof of my mouth and sides of my tongue… much like burning napalm clings snugly to blistering flesh. Bottle courtesy of landhoney!

Date: January 13, 2012 Mode: Bottle Source: Trade with Tony Description: Semi-opaque reddish brown pour with nice head and lacing. Aroma of piney hops, malt, caramel, and some alcohol. Taste is similar but alcohol is much stronger in taste than aroma and maybe a touch of spice. I am getting a hopped up barley wine feel to this one, which was interesting to try but did not totally dig it. Also, anyone else thinking Mao when you hear the name Chairman....eh must just be those of us history geeks.

I finally got to try more Half Acre beers when I hit Maria’s in Bridgeport for the first time. This is in a 9 oz. goblet and $5 draft on a Monday! Slightly reddish color shows through the dim bar lighting. Thin is thin, yet sassy as satisfied. Smell is of worming alcohol and a touch of, well, I say, red wine. The taste has alcohol up front, but it has brought its friends along: more cherry/fruity malt esters, and snarky American hops. A flat out great, big beer. Malt profile stays at the fringes, but stays to the end help dust you off.

Pour from a bottle received as a a nice extra in a trade. Amber red in color with an off white head. Aroma of pine and sweet malt. Very smooth on your palate. Rich crystal malt with a solid hope backbone. Finish is balanced with moderate bitter hop presence. I liked it and am a sucker for the imperial red style.

poured from bomber into a pint glass. Pours a dark amber color with a good 2’ head well balanced aromas of malts, caramel, toffee, and copper aromas. medium/full bodied with a smooth feel. Very nice caramel, toffee, and malty flavors, but lacking a slight bit of body an extremely good imperial red ale. The alcohol is slightly noticeable, but not too much

Cloudy dark red. Little head but what’s there is long lasting. Halfway between a bareleywine and an IPA, I’d say. Big hops w/ a tasty earthy hop presence and deep sweet malts. Good slow sipper for the wintertime.

Copper color with a really nice and foamy head. Creamy mouth and body. Sweet flavor of caramel and sugar. Really nice hop finish and very well balanced. The alcohol is super hidden. For 9.5% this is incredibly easy to drink. Aroma is sweet citrus. Well done Half Acre!
